I like the looks of it. Very much like Pelikan 4001 Blue-Black. Thanks for this and your many other excellent reviews.

You're both very welcome!

I like it too, but I like it better in broader nibs - the shading is hard to see in the EF, despite that close-up.

Thank you. You make it look lovely.

(I gave my bottle away. Again a rookie mistake, buying without trying. Also, shouldve kept the actual bottle. Great design)

 True confessions - I bought it without a sample because I wanted a Lamy bottle and blue-black was clearly the only color of theirs I might remotely like! ;) It looks absolutely gorgeous coming from my Pelikan m405 - supposedly a fine nib, but we all know that means medium. ;)

Great review Liz. I guess I need to be try like Marcel Proust and see this colour with new eyes :yikes: or maybe I just grab a madeleine and dunk it into tea ;) ...

Thanks Liz!

It looks ok as an ink, but i think I'll pass on this one since i have so many similar BBs already :)

Just give me the Parker 51s and nobody needs to get hurt.

:) Shockingly enough, there does come a time when one has enough blue-blacks. At least until you use up a few... ;)

I have yet to finish a single bottle, of ANYTHING. I buy it faster than i use it.

The 3/4 of a 32oz bottle of Vintage Skrip BB will not help that situation... :P

We ARE close to finishing a bottle of Lexington Grey, and a bottle of Mysterious Blue. But the mysterious blue is only because it's my pen testing ink, and a lot of it ends up sacrificed to the nib tuning gods.

:) Same here! But I have finished samples, and mostly I only buy samples anymore.

Enjoy your new vintage ink - looking forward to pictures! And when you finish off your Lexington Grey or Mysterious Blue, we'll have to throw a virtual party! :D

Here's the line width measurement. The line is one of those used for dry time.  Magnification is 100x.  The grid is 100x100µm.  The scale is 330µm, with eleven divisions of 30µm each.  The line width for this ink is roughly 260µm.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
