Collecting Parker 100

admittedly, its a tiny sample size (3...) so far... but all three are pre-production?... what were the odds of that? wonder if maybe MOST of them were pre-production, and then just took years to sell?...

Just give me the Parker 51s and nobody needs to get hurt.

it's normal that a pen was in production before the introduction date.

it's the same as the duofold

Yes, I know that it was not uncommon for Parker...

And I have just checked my three other P100s (another Cobalt Black GT, ST and Opal Silver): all them have a date mark I.III that means Q1 2004.

Just an observation: my first P100 marked L was bought from a former US Parker sales manager who perhaps got the one from early batch... while three other pens were bought from European dealers and private collectors.

so, now since it was officially phased out in 07, the question becomes, does anyone have a 100 dated later than first quarter 2004?... and what is the latest date anyone has?...

Yes, it would be interesting to know what date codes appear on other people's P100s...

Mine (Honey White, I'm afraid) is I.II ,  bought new in 2008 after the model had been cancelled for £78.99 from lewertowski (pensellerfromfrance) on ebay.

According to famous Tony's site P100 was introduced in 2004.

But my P100 Cobalt Black is marked with date code "L" that means Q4 2003...

Has someone found L code on his/her P100, too?..

Hi.  My P100 Opal Silver is also a Q4 2003 pen.

On a similar note all of my NG51s are Q1 2020 - as agentbug says, Parker will have been manufacturing for stock before the release date.

ya know, I'm starting to think that Parker only made them for maybe a yr at most... and then just kept selling that stock until they were out...

Just give me the Parker 51s and nobody needs to get hurt.

  • 1 month later...

It looks like earlier P100 models with Gold-plated caps still command higher prices...

About two weeks ago P100 Cobalt Black ST in NOS boxed condition was sold on eBay for only £130...

Two days ago used P100 Smoke Bronze was sold on eBay for £150 though it was only 1 bidder...

I bought a P100 in Diamond Blue with the brushed gold-colored cap early on when they were released. It's dated I.III. I could never get ink to flow, and I just tossed it in a drawer. Fast forward to about a month ago, and I found it in the drawer. I thought "I'm going to get this thing going or dump it once and for all".

Fortunately, I was able to find some info on how to disassemble the section. Once apart, it was clear to me that the feed channels weren't large enough. A minute with a razor blade opened up and deepened the ink feed channels.

Eureka! The ink flows perfectly now. It's one of my favorites and I use it a lot.

I have picked up another 5 or 6 of these, I will update my manufacturing date table when they all arrive. Finally managed to get a couple of medium nibs and a pencil or two.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
