Winner Pens In Hk Closed?

Walked past the shop and saw it all boarded up.

There was no notice of moving or renovation.

Does anyone know if it closed for good? or has it relocated?

Its quite depressing if Hong Kong loses one of its scarce stores that carries great brands.

I was with him for the last hour.

I guess its close for good as many of the items are sold in 60 or 70% off...

I was born in Hong Kong and keep going back, I cannot think of a more vibrant place in the world.

Never been to Winner Pens in Central but when I was looking to find out about what I was missing I found information about the Sham Shui Po Second Hand Pen Shop run by a Mr Poon who has been repairing pens at his Sham Shiui Po street shop for more than 30 years. It is said that he will fix any pen and is well worth a visit just to see an old professional in action. Mr Poon has boxes of second hand pens stashed all over the place with prices set to sell. His shop in Pei Ho Street.

74C Pei Ho Street, Sham Shui Po,

Has anyone been to his shop?

I would really like to hear about life today in HK and what you think about the future.

This may be regarded as a Political comment by some so perhaps you can let me know by PM?

I lived in Jardines Lookout until 1981, my father worked for Jardine, Matheson and tried to defend HK when the Japanese invaded but he was captured and tortured, most of his friends were just bayonetted.

I shopped there many times over the last 3-4 years. When I was last there in January the owner told me she was retiring and would close for good at the end of May. I wish I could have been back one last time.....

I wished they informed people much earlier, or posted a note somewhere..

I would most definitely go back to get more pens from them... sigh

  • 5 months later...

I bought a pen case and quite a lot of ink from him last year then found him shut when I went to visit earlier this year. Now for ink I use Ink House in Stanley Street and for pens prefer Chun Kee Stationary in Lock Street, TST.

it's sad to hear that Winners has closed down for good...

but i am glad to know there are someone from Hong Kong here  :)

i am aware of a relatively new pen shop in Sham Shui Po - Muzepens.  i haven't been to there and only learnt about it from its Instagram (no affiliation with the shop at all).   will pay a visit to them later.

I haven't been there either, though I go to SSP often it is at the Castlepeak Rd/Cheung Sha Wan end for groceries at the wet market. Looks good from the photos, nice range of brands and price range as evidenced by a couple of Namiki Vermillion 50s sitting there in the display cabinet under the desk.

I went by muze pen a couple of weekends back. It was packed! I was pleasantly surprised. They have quite a good selection of inks, especially Japanese  (Taccia, Kobe etc..) . They have a good selection of Platinum, Aurora etc.

Montegrappa referred me to them when I needed to fix my pen, so I guess they are official distributors for them in Hong Kong? Not sure, but pretty good selection of those too.

I hope business keeps up. Always happy to see shops do well..

What I really miss about Winners is their promotional products... They occasionally have pens offered at steep discounts.

Those were really attractive lol.

The guy at Chun Kee Stationary in Lock Street might be able to satisfy that discounts itch, I get some stuff from him at sometimes less that 50% of international prices. It varies quite a lot, sometimes the discount just ends up at normal prices, sometimes it is spectacular, he specialises in high end stuff, especially Namiki and Danitrio, but has a good assortment of stuff at every price point. Well worth a look if you've not been before.

I don't know, I'm into Japanese pens so other than buying my wife a MB rollerball a couple of years ago, I don't know my way around whether its a good or average price. His prices on what I buy are pretty much the best anywhere, but that's because he has a very long-standing relationship with the suppliers. But he is great fun to talk to in English and my wife tells me he is much more crazy about the pens in Cantonese. Is there a particular Montblanc you're looking for? I have to go visit him to return a book I've borrowed in the next week or so, I could ask what his price is, PM me if you like.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
