Well, the radio silence has been broken. No specific date has been given as to when they will reopen.

From Conid’s Facebook:

Dear Conid enthusiasts,

First and foremost, we hope every one of you has been safe and sound during the past (very challenging) months. The biggest challenge being the fight against the Covid-19/Corona crisis. Our main focus has been on the health and safety of not only our own, but also for the world population. Our mother company Komec Helsen is the main supplier for a pharmaceutical company and our full attention was required to ensure they would be able to keep on producing without failure. Thus we opted to postpone the restart of Conid.

We wanted to let everybody know that we have not been sitting still, on the contrary. The little time we had left for Conid we have used to work on the long term future of Conid. We have been working on a lot of aspects with the sole purpose of improving quality and consistency while reducing lead times. Before taking the “pause to restart” we made a couple promises and we intend to keep all of them, except one: restarting on May 1...
This date is postponed, but rest assured, we will be back and we will be back stronger than ever before.

We would like to express our gratitude for the vast amount of support and understanding that we received from all of you!

We also wish you and your loved ones a good health. Stay safe, stay strong!

The Conid team

Even just a copy/paste of this post via email would have been nice. Also, would that not have a better chance of reaching their customers than a post on their facebook page?

It just came out minutes ago. Not sure if they were listening to you or realized it on their own. Good news!

It came to me by email as a newsletter subscriber. If you wish to hear from them by email, subscribe to their newsletter. This seems a reasonable and normal expectation.

I received the email as well. I posted the first comment yesterday when the announcement was only available on their facebook.

Great news! Any uptick in communication is welcome. I wonder what it would take for them to justify hiring a full time correspondence person.

Very fair.

their situation—being a pet project of Komec—must have them in a strange place regarding hiring. I can’t see why they have yet to hire a team, or even an individual, to manage what must be a trivial amount of correspondence compared to the volume their mother company deals with on a daily basis.

Yeah, I’d posted that before it went out. Happy to see that in the end they did send it out via email too.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
