Here's another amberleadavis special.

Forgot to indicate this is Rhodia Dot paper...

 

 

Chroma seems like a single dye component....

Pretty color, again suitable for spring, and this is the only tested PIF ink which seems at least a bit water-resistant.

 

I don't have many purple or violet inks, but North African Violet seems similar to J Herbin's Violette Pensee. Which stains nothing.

 

Wonder why none of my scans are in focus...:huh:

NAV is I think the first ink I wanted that wasn't blue. Interesting that you say it's similar to Violett Pensee, which I have a sample of but haven't gotten around to trying, because my bottle of NAV is a vibrant smack in the middle of the spectrum purple. I found it to be more vibrant than the similarly hued- bottle of PR Purple Mojo, which is the first purple ink I actually DID buy; NAV is a bit slower drying on the crummy Piccadilly sketch book paper I use for testing inks, but PRPM is a bit softer a color.

Hmmm. Haven't used NAV for a while. Thanks for the review. Wondering now how a couple of six year old inks have held up....

I have both and got curious ... so I did this:

that's a simple 10 second running water test in the second picture. Poor J. Herbin never stood a chance.

 

I'm not saying that a 10 second soak test is realistic, but a drop of water condensing on the outside of your coke can (all soft drinks are called a coke, look it up :D ) and absolutely will ruin your writing.

 

In this particular test, the NAV seems darker and bluer.

Lovely comparison Katerchen.

 

Sailor, this ink is one that I love, but never use because it is too dry for me.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

What a coincidence, I just received my bottle of NAV and doing a test drive write I was completely smitten! Mine flows well (out of a very good Jinhao 699, wet and smooth), with a stickiness I learned to love from KWZ stuff, and behaves flawlessly on copy paper (Navigator 90 so far, I don't consider it particularly good but there's oh so much worse out there). However my bottle is nowhere near Herbin Violette Pensée... look at this:

Great test, katerchen....and thanks for the side-by-side, Eclipse.

 

 

It's a pretty ink, so I'll continue using it with that glass dip pen, which was a gift from a friend, and since the ink was a gift from amberleadavis... win-win symmetry.

Not around HERE, they're not....

My ex-boyfriend told me that when he was a kid his older sister's friends made him walk the five miles to the store from the campground they were at because he brought back Pepsi instead of the real stuff.... (Used to be that ALL East Kingdom members of the chivalry only drank REAL Coke, not that Pepsi stuff).

Of course around here it's called "pop" anyway. Which I don't because I grew up in the greater NYC area (I also don't use "gum bands" and don't "redd things up", even though I have been in the Pittsburgh area long enough to say "that needs cleaned" or "that needs fixed", and I have been known to refer to the city about 45 minutes south of here as "Little Warshington".

Of course my husband completely freaked out the woman behind the counter in IIRC Annapolis Royal in Nova Scotia when he told her that Mountain Dew had caffeine in it "south of the border" (aka the US)....

This is one of the latest inks I purchased (Last year's Miami Pen Show) and I've noticed that it starts out VERY purple when wet, but shifts toward Blue when it dries.

      I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

      Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

      I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature.
