Does Platinum Have A Nib Exchange Programme?

Hi everybody, I’ve recently opened a Izumo which carries a rhodium president nib that was bought quite a while ago. So warranty, if there’s any, could have expired. On second thought, I’d like to go on the thicker side of lines and would like to have the nib changed to Broad.

Does Platinum offer a nib exchange programme as its western counterparts or if it is not free, does Platinum allow doing it with a cost? I’ve tried searching the forum but didn’t seem to find any previous discussion on this. Does that mean a no? Does anybody have any experience that could be shared? Many thanks!

Depending on manufacturing tolerances, you might not find a B that impressive... Compare mine:

Visually, the nib is broader, but it seems the contact patch isn't any different from a medium. (forum display tends to reduce the image -- click to see full size)

I have personal experience with this issue. I owned two Izumos (now three) that had fine and medium nibs. These were scratchy and unpleasant to write with in spite of my best attempts at alignment. I took them to the Dallas Pen Show in 2017 to try to sell them.

While there, I met the owner of Luxury Brands, the distributor of Platinum, who said he would take care of the problem. Soon afterward, I received both pens with broad nibs installed. Both pens wrote perfectly out of the box. The only charge to me was a minimal fee for postage. This is not the only time I have received service above and beyond the ordinary from a pen vendor, which makes me grateful and proud to be a member of this community.

I can't guarantee that you will experience the same result, but it's worth asking.

Rationalizing pen and ink purchases since 1967.

If you're in Hong Kong you should contact the local Platinum distributor, Circleplus (http://www.circleplus.com.hk/). I don't know about nib exchanges but I've dealt with them before and they're easy to communicate with via phone, email or Whatsapp.

@Ruaidhri This was an absolutely wonderful bit of writing, and I hope that you're able to maintain the style once all of the medications are out of your system.  Take care and recover quickly!

These comments make me sad as I sympathise with Ruaidhri, having great difficulties in being taken seriously. Or being taken at all (no off-colors jokes, please!) In spite of overwhelming odds,  Ruaidhri -now I know how to spell it- made a courageous decision and stuck to it. I was diagnosed with a similar growth in a place I will not reveal. Oh, well, if you insist it was Mount Sinai Hospital. But I firmly intend to walk in Ruaidhri's footsteps, if he will let me, on my next visit to Dublin.

Reminds me of the day my associates and I developed a cure for all mankind's ills and mistakenly wrote it down with invisible ink.

Was that the end of the Laboratory? Somehow the exactitude created a fully destructive device, as always!
