I really appreciate this, I’m currently on a bit of an iron gall kick at the moment :).

Such great inks, and with KWZ now making them in a range of colours, they are very hard to pass by!

Great job siliverlifter...

I'm starting to appreciate Irongalls, thanks to your enthusiasm :)

If you want to include it (it's limited to a Japanese EF nib), I recently reviewed R&K Salix: https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/topic/353653-efnir-rohrer-klingner-salix/

I'd love to. Unfortunately, I can no longer edit the original post (must be a time lock setting on these boards) :(

Thanks for this effort, silver

Cheers!

Ah, yes, there is. Even so, the thread itself can serve as a sort of index and is highly useful! Thanks for all the work finding and putting the links in one place! :)

I'm a huge fan of IG inks. So thanks for doing this, silverlifter.

And well, also not. :( I had resigned myself to never getting another bottle of Darkening Absinthe, because Pharmicist seems to have fallen off the map; have been weighing the relative merits of hoarding it (thus running the risk of it going bad when the iron part precipitates out) vs. using it (and not being able to get more, and no, KWZI IG Turquoise is NOT the same color).

Oh, and I'm not sure if there are reviews of it that were posted, but I really also like KWZI IG Mandarin (which oxidizes to a nice light brown) and wish that IG Cherry was still available (hint to Konrad here).

Thanks Ruth!

I emailed Pharmacist a few months ago to enquire about their plans: now word back :(

On the other hand, I have found Konrad and Agnieszka great to deal with, perhaps you should plead for a reboot of IG Cherry... :)

KWZ's IG inks seem to mix ok, and I bet it's possible to reproduce the colour if you don't mind a little tinkering.

I could get fairly close adding a little Green #3 to Blue #1. If you have them Green #1 and Blue-Black might be better ingredients.

Silverlifter, thanks for this great listing! This is something we've all been talking about for years but apparently nobody ever got around to posting such a fine selection here.
I have just edited a few things, e.g.

  1. I added Gutenberg's 30-ml plastic jug of IG ink which is a black document-ink. Yes, it is also safe for FPs. I use it occasionally and it does appear to be a truly archive-type of ink. AFAIK nobody has yet reviewed it on the forum but here are two links to it: Gutenberg Urkundentinte G10 schwarz and https://www.wenzel-buerobedarf.de/exklusive-accessoires/gutenberg-urkundentinte-30-ml/.
  2. Under Montblanc we might want to differentiate a bit. In the last 20 years and more, there have been several Montblanc blue-blacks. Not all were IGs, and that was not only the case for bottles versus cartridges (just like Lamy's). Please see under Montblanc in the list above.
  3. I have also added LizEF's contribution to Salix.

Is Gutenberg's bible ink, the same as Urkundentinte G10?

Hi Yazeh,

no. I have both. Gutenberg Urkundentinte G10 is a brownish ink,

the bible ink is apurplish blue black - it is sold by the Gutenberg-shop, not a Gutenberg product.

... I know, a review would be fine.

Thanks Jens :)

Ok. So Gutenberg G10 is produced by another company and the bible ink by Gutenberg museum. Is that correct?

Anyway the Bible ink can be added to the list.... :)

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
