A 1980 Parker Wood Pen, made in Germany

That is an intriguing pen!

To my eyes, it looks as though it has the nib and grip-section of a Parker ‘Arrow’, put in to a bespoke wooden body that has been made in the style of a Parker ‘Arrow’.

But the Parker ‘Arrow’ was an American pen, and it wasn’t launched until 1981.

Do you know anything more about who made your wooden pen?

Is it a one-off? Or are there more of them out there ‘in the wild’?

Foul in clear conditions, but handsome in the fog.

From my limited understanding this is actually a proper parker which was supposed to be made out of one of 8 types of wood in a limited number, possibly without the blessings of parker U.S.A. And possibly terminated mid run by the overlords. That said I could be mistaken. I am not a parker expert , fairly sure i saw an article about wooden parkers somewhere which I can't find anymore :(.

Hello all,

In 1980, there were supposed to be 2,000 of these pens made in 8 different types of wood, in West Germany. Parker HQ didn't like them and halted production.

Nobody knows how many were actually made before production was halted.

This may help you further, (scroll down):

You're welcome. 👍

Best of luck. :D

Fortunately, for me, I can't stand the clip, so I don't suffer the hunger for one... or two, etc. :D

FWIW, here's one on eBay for the pittance of $6,600:

Only $6600?

A veritable bargain!

Sadly for me, as that pen is in Japan, I would need to pay 20% VAT plus 2% Import Duty on it - which would push its price-for-me over $8050.

I’ve just had a scrabble for loose change down the back of my sofa, and I recovered only $7900 😢

So it’s lucky that it isn’t one of the ones that I fancy, eh? 😁

Yes, that is lucky, indeed. Btw, have you checked the seats in your car, yet? :D

WOW! Congratulations PAKMAN, that Vacumatic is especially beautiful; the clarity and lack of yellowing on such a HTF model is phenomenal.

Jealous. I keep trying to score a midnight blue and keep failing

Midnight Blue was one of the colors I wanted the most.  But for some reason was the hardest for me to get -- and I paid a bit more than I did for the Plum Demi (although I got extremely lucky on the Plummer and never got outbid on it -- aka "best poker face EVAH!").

Hello Sean ;)

About two years ago I saw one of those German-made wooden Parkers on UK eBay in NOS condition with asking price of £999 (circa US$1,360 that time), but I don't remember what particular wood it was...

While I was tardy and thinking too long , it was sold :(

After that I've spoken to one reputable German pen dealer (and collector, too). and he told me that it is still possible find one of those gorgeous pens in NOS condition for EUR700 - 1,400...

Thanks for the info, RB, but I was curious about what Parker was asking back in '80/'81.

Be careful with offers from Japan :)

On many occasions I have seen even quite ordinary Parkers unrealistically overpriced there...

As I was told be a reputable German dealer the right price for that wooden Parker should me no more than EUR1,500.

Well, I will try to ask a couple of people in Germany who are old enough and may remember the initial price for those pens.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
