What Parkers Have Joined Your Collection Lately?

My latest acquisition is a vintage Duofold button filler, found in an antiques mall in Uniontown, PA on Saturday.

I *think* (at least from the research I've been able to do so far) that it's a Junior (from the size -- a bit under 5" long) Deluxe (from the 3 bands on the cap and the "Deluxe" on the nib) in Moderne Black and Pearl (although slightly discolored); possibly a Streamline model from the shape of the section and the blind cap (so maybe early 1930s).  This will be the first Duofold for me that isn't a Laidtone.

Guessing from a quick glance under the loupe that it's a fine nib; tipping looked okay but of course I won't know for sure and unfortunately probably won't be able to get it up and running until pen shows start happening again (I've had sufficiently bad problems with the Pgh post office of late that I'm loathe to send it out; plus, if I'm at a show I can be right there....

This one arrived today in the morning.

Over here very difficult to find, Parker 51, MK lll.

It is in great condition, it seems not to have been inked, I will look in detail.

Got my hands on this lovely 51 Aerometric a while back. Writes a nice fine line, one of my favourite pens.

Hi Switala,

Very nice; one of my favorite colors. 👍

One thing to keep in mind, Parker used a much more fragile plastic on the Mk. III 51's; so when you're not using it - leave the cap loose. It will prevent unnecessary pressure on the section from the clutch cap.

The same advice holds true for any 21s; 45s or 61s you own.  ;)

Sometimes, you have to love eBay! I just got a surprise in my mail....a Plum full size 51 for $60....I was hoping it might be, though it was sold as black.

😁🧐😁

Man!  I hate you almost as much as I hate Farmersmum!

Nice job, BTW, if it really is a Plummer -- you paid less than I did for a Plum Demi almost 7 years ago.  I love it when people score on eBay.  Almost as much as when it's me doing the scoring.... B)  Good to know that there are still deals to be found there.
Pix when you get it (although I'll probably destroy my keyboard with the drool...).

It's a bit hard to tell from the photo.  I've found that my Plum Demi only really looks purple in daylight (when it came, I also got a black 51 Vac in the mail the same day -- I had been so fixated on the auction for the Plum Demi I had completely forgotten I'd put the minimum bid on the the 51 Vac -- assuming that since I'd ONLY bid the minimum I'd of course be outbid....  Only I wasn't....   (It was UK made, but had the cap for a US-made 51 Special on it, and nobody else bid on it); I had forgotten about it until I got the "congratulations , you won!" notification from eBay (oops).  Well, both came in the same mail, and I took them outside to look at them next to a burgundy 51 Special I already had -- and only then was I really 100% certain that the Plummer was just that.

Wondering if that was part of why they only made Plum for the 1948-49 model year (supposedly it wasn't a popular color) -- that people had trouble distinguishing it from black except in very bright light).

There was a thread awhile back which said that it's easier to see the color difference between black and Plum under UV light (in which the plum color really stands out).

But even if it turned out to *be* black, that's still a good/decent price for a 51 Aero.

Congratulations Carguy; good for you! 👍

I think the only way I'll get a plum is if I buy one of the new releases.  :D

As for me, I've purchased several Big Red ballpoints for knocking around and have discovered that they can be converted to a fountain pen by using the section from a CROSS Solo. 🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳

(Photos coming tomorrow - hopefully).

If it hadn’t been for the super bright light on my desk that magnifies, I probably would have missed it. Looks to be 1st quarter 1949 from the imprint.

Truth be told, I wasn’t coveting a Plum for plums sake, I simply like all things purple!

Me too!

Today the stash was increased by one -- a black Parker 21 that I mistook for a Demi-sized Aero [in my defense, my glasses were fogged up by the required face mask --the woman from the estate sale company kept making announcements that she didn't want to get cited and/or shut down AGAIN because the customers were being goobers -- my terminology, not hers, BTW) but also because the line before the doors opened was standing on the sidewalk outside the door in below freezing temperatures and before the sun came up].  I also didn't notice the bad tipping.  OTOH, I wasn't charged for the pen :o (which by my calculation from the signage on that table would only have been two bucks anyway).  I told the cashier that the pen was from the canister on the table, and *she* only charged me for the Platignum "Italic Set" and they may have wrapped the two calligraphy pamphlets in with that.  Of course it could also have been the case that since th canister wasn't labeled, it and its entire contents might have been two bucks....

This was the same company, BTW, that ran the sale where I paid two bucks for the Forest Green 51 Aero....

Funny thing about this one was that it looked set to be one of the few aero 51’s I’ve ever bought that didn’t write immediately after a good cleaning and flushing. I cleaned it out with Rapido-Eze - first time I’ve used that. It filled well but absolutely would not write no matter what I did. I thought I’d have to take it apart and replace the breather tube. As a last ditch effort I started dipping it in water and seeing if it would write with Aurora Blue ink.....would write with watery ink then quit. And then, all of a sudden it was like a dam broke and it cleared a clog, after that it started writing like a champ.....like every other 70+ year old 51 I’ve bought before.

That’s why this is an amazing pen. I simply can’t explain it any better than that. Now hunting for # 49

Oi Switala,

Muito agradável; uma das minhas cores favoritas. 👍

Thanks for the reminder Sean.

I always have this care, especially with pens that are not yet deformed.

Que bela caneta e cor. Uma caneta quase sem uso em boas condições. Desejo poder encontrar algo assim por um bom preço Parabéns.

Thank you. These are scarce and increasingly expensive.

But in a good hunt you can still be found wild.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
