New Textbook On Soennecken...

I have already posted in the Other European Brands pages; but really feel inspired to post here too, in order to reach a wider audience:

I recently found a Soennecken textbook on the German eBay site and hit the "buy it now" button after seeing what a thorough work it appeared to be. Germany has an official "no export" policy at present, due to the pandemic, so I contacted the seller -- who turned out to be...the author himself! This gentleman was very responsive and told me he would be happy to sell to me directly and as soon as permitted. A few hours later he emailed me again to say that he ship the book after discovering that a friend of his had legitimate access to UPS. I sent payment to his Paypal account and...less than four days later had the beautiful book in my hand! It was very well-packaged, too, to prevent any damage during shipping.

So: very comprehensive textbook, this, on all things Soennecken: it is in both German and English (well-translated); beautifully illustrated and printed on high quality paper. A big, heavy tome it is not; but everything is there and it comes in its own hard slipcase. For just around $100 I can now start to understand the Soennecken numbering system properly -- at last -- and am the proud owner of a gorgeous textbook on one of my favourite pens!

Anyone wishing to enquire, may contact him directly: stefan.wallrafen@gmx.de (I post this with his permission) and am a very happy customer!

Thanks to you Christopher, I received my Soennecken book in today's mail! I cannot wait to open it up and go through it! It will sooth my Soennecken Soul no doubt. And in California, I too received mine all the way over here in 4 days!

Thank you for the info. This is very interesting to me because I own a few Soennecken pens and really like them. Are there sample images of the book available?

Try looking for it on eBay, Nyoko; but -- if I were you -- I'd buy directly from the author. He ships out fast, I can tell you! Trust me: lovely book with all you need to know...

(Note: I have vested interest in this: I am simply one very happy customer!)

I recently bought, at auction, a Soennecken Rheingold from the author st.wa.. After the conclusion of the auction he offered me his book at a significant discount. I accepted, and 3 days later I had both the pen and book in my possession.

Even though I love the Rheingold, the acquisition of which was the realization of a 2-year dream, I have to admit that I got far more joy per buck out of the book.

Stefan Wallrafen's book is a must-have for anyone with even a passing interest in Soennecken.

During a recent email conversation with the author, Stefan Wallrafen, I was told that he and Michael Gutberlet, the owner of Kaweco, are about to publish a book on Kaweco writing instruments.

The book will follow a similar layout and format as the Soennecken book and should be available in a few weeks.

Will update when I know more.

I've also bought one. As a owner of over 40 Soennecken pens, this book truly humbles me. Mr. Wallrafen's masterpiece is something to behold, and it makes you lament that you were born too late into this world.....most of the stuff in his book are very hard to find these days.....

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
