A Green Mabled Swan - What Color? Not A 41...

Hi,

I got this Swan lately, but there is no number on my pen...

It seems to be a war time pen, the lever is chromium colored.
The green one on page 235 in the new book by Steven Hull looks similar...

Any ideas what color code this could be?

The color is beautiful, but not familiar to me. Not too difficult to replace the clip when you find the part! That pen deserves to be completed.

Yes non-standard (for a Swan) green arble. Things were of course difficult int he 1940s and manufacturers used what they could get. That material reminds me of a Conway Stewart Dinky I once had.

Hi Greenie,

sure it deserves a matching clip.

A well known Swan friend here can help me to complete. Thank you, C.! :-)

Greetings

Hi!

Now that I compare I see the color is a bit different from yours.

Yep, your's look like a typical 41 color, more black in it here.

But newer mind, it's always nice to see more mabled Swans. :-)

Enjoy and best wishes

Jens

Attempting to upload a photo, both of the Swan and a similar Swallow. fpn_1588958528__img_20200503_154723224.j

Gosh! They seem to be made of identical stock! Very nice colour!

I'd say Schaumburg Swan's pen is lighter/more black - but, also a very nice colour.

I get so used to seeing black Swans, it's always a joy to see the coloured ones.

Hi,

... the pen is complete again!

It took me longer than expected as the broken original clip had left a piece inside the cap.

And it's nib is realligned, writes like a stubbish OF :-)

Well done, Jens! That's a great nib.

Thank You, Eachan.

Even in hard times MT made wonderful nibs and pens.

This one will be the next daily user, Diamine Green/Black should look fine here.

Best regards and stay well

Jens

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
