Worry? Kop Demonstrator Blobs Of Ink Visible On Grip Between Clear And Black

Hi

I am a new KOP demonstrator owner. I have just inked it up with the SAILOR Bird Nipponia Nippon Red ink ordered from Japan which arrived today. It writes excellently.

However, what I see after inking it are some small blobs of ink between the clear plastic on the steel ring above the black grip on one side

Is this normal? Should I go back to the seller?

(see better photo after edit)

Warm regards/gary

Ink it again and see if it does the same thing. Wrap tissue around the area to see if it draws any ink from a crack or leak. If it does, send it back to the seller.

Hopefully it's just a bit of ink you missed while inking it.

Thanks for your suggestion

When I wrap a tissue around I get red ink but its hard to tell if its coming out beside the nib shaft going into the plastic. When I carefully rub it around the plastic edge of the grip I get a feint deposit of red

If you've cleaned the section after inking you shouldn't be getting any wet ink there. I'd contact the seller, send the above picture and explain that you're getting ink leaking. If they are a reputable seller they should offer to replace it.

Interesting. I don’t have a demonstrator, but after I wash out my KoP nib and re-ink, water seeps from somewhere in the section and comes out as tiny drops by the section ring, wetting my fingers as I write. The good news is it is water and not ink that creeps out. Every time I wash my nib I literally have to wrap a tissue around the section and write with my fingers over the tissue for 15 minutes to get all the water extracted. Sorry, not really your issue, but a different liquid leak issue in the same vicinity of the pen.
