Especially Cherished Inks

These are three of my favorites as well! Also enjoyed your display of the scented inks. I've been working so hard lately that I've hardly had time to write.

Rationalizing pen and ink purchases since 1967.

Thank you!

I'd wondered what had kept you largely away from FPN.

Those three inks are all reliable in nibs of various sizes.

Thank you for the scented ink writing samples Tom. I found them informative. I have enjoyed MB's history of scented inks, although they have certainly kicked it up a few notches in terms of volume and variety. Gone are the days of a single "Winter ink" special edition with Western European traditional holiday scents like pine treed or ginger bread cookies. They did make writing Christmas cards more enjoyable. Seems like people hardly write cards any more...

I appreciate your mentioning past Montblanc scented inks, which preceded my coming to Montblanc.

Pine tree scent?

Gingerbread cookie scent?

All of those sound appealing to me.

Yubi's Lunar New Year Card

Yubi is so much more handsome than the New Year's favor. I hope you enjoy the celebration! But please be careful. I understand the coronavirus is creating some real problems there.

Thank you Tom Kellie, for posting this. Wow! This looks really interesting. I like the "touch of pink". But I imagine it is probably really heavy because of the all the metal. And it is definitely out of my price range right now. Still it is a very nice looking pen.

I am so excited! Soon, I will be able to join you all with a new BB nib on a Montblanc Great Characters John F. Kennedy in Blue! Our friends at Fritz Schimpf were able to locate one since this edition is no longer made and will not be made again. It is ordered, the new BB nib will be installed there and then it will be shipped to me. I can't wait and just had to share the news!

Thank you, Tom Kellie, for telling me about Fritz Schimpf!

I prefer Yubi to the Webster

~ Uncial:

Yubi feels flattered.

He feels that pink plumage may be a wee bit overrated.

Thanks, Tom, for sharing these images of the new MB offerings and, of course, Yubi.

~ Toll:

Yubi is hoping for a lively fountain pen year.

Why?

Because anything which keeps me at my writing desk keeps me near to him.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
