Oldwin / The Pen Family In Arco Verde

For this price I would prefer an original Omas Arco Verde or Arco Brown. The Oldwin original Classic model is very nice, but it's a VERY BIG pen.

I’m not sure about all the confusion regarding the price of this pen : the ASC -Pen Family website clearly says the MSRP is $1375. The $650 is obviously a deposit. Realistically speaking, it’s highly impractical to think that an ASC-Oldwin collaboration in beautiful arco verde celluloid with a big gold nib would sell for $650. There sure is an inappropriate amount of complaining and whining in this thread : if one doesn’t want the pen at this price point then just don’t get it. Easy enough. I submitted my deposit for the pen immediately and I noticed when I went to check out allegations of “ false advertising” just now it's sold out. Not surprised at all : all one has to do is read to the bottom. I can’t wait to get this pen : ship date is mid-March.

You cant have two differing MSRPs, with the lower price right at the top of the page. Certainly eye catching but misleading should you fail to scroll down in the heat of the moment. True that $650 is too good to be true for a newly made Arco product, and it sounds like youre familiar with ASCs pricing of their celluloid pens. Enjoy them in good health if youve already purchased one. But with ASC maintaining two differing MSRPs on their website says to me either of two things - A sloppy marketing team or an intention to deceive.

Actually, it's both (sloppy marketing and an intent to deceive). That along with unjustifiably high prices, poor quality control and awful customer service all add up to a very worrisome scenario for one who is tempted to make a purchase.

Our wise and all knowing Professor may not realize that the web site where this pen is featured has been significantly revised. The owner of ASC heard from many that his misleading marketing was unacceptable.

My guess is our Professor friend has not yet had the pleasure of acquiring an ASC pen. We will look forward to his report in mid-March, once he has received it. Of course, that mid-March delivery date may yet become a mid-November delivery date, based on ASC's past performance in meeting their delivery date commitments.

Actually, I’ve purchased every ASC issue since ASC's inception — with the exception of the wild celluloid : here’s a sample of those pens which are currently in use on my desk. They write to perfection : the Pavarotti music nib is one of the finest I own . . . and I have about 30 music nibs in my collection.

That is good to hear. That's quite a collection and commitment to a "start up" Company with so many checkered reports.

As a Professor, you know well about the importance of a disclosure of a conflict of interest, so may we assume you have none as relates to the Company or its owner??

In the absence of a conflict of interest your experience is important to have recorded here as yours has been much better than most of what one finds in the many posts about ASC here on FPN. Thanks for letting us know.......

Below please find my response : ( been awhile since I’ve been on FPN and I think I pressed the wrong multi-quote tab ).

You are indeed correct : I have no affiliation whatsoever with ASC. I must, however, confess that I am an

arco-holic. The one arco which continues to elude me is the OMAS 360. There were only 30 made. How could I have let that one get away ?

Lots of us would agree with your wish to acquire an Omas 360 in Arco. Be patient and one will surely come your way. The only question is how much you are willing to spend!!

As for being an arco-holic, there are lots of us. You are not alone. I'm one too. But not so much that I'd spend my money on an ASC arco. I'd rather put it into the real thing.......... Like saving up for that 360!!

With all due respect to your good experience with ASC there are many too many who have expressed a high degree of dissatisfaction with their QC, customer service and overall questionable marketing / sales tactics.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
