if people see something going on that's wrong they say hey somebody should do something about that.

do something about it

How is that an American thing? ==>"When you see something wrong, you do something about it."

That's what's it's all about!

That is what being an American is all about.

In my humble opinion.

Can't say that sounds very humble to me...

I 'do the right thing' every day. In all sorts of ways, and without making any fuss about it.

I certainly don't feel bad, but I still just don't get what's American about it? Are all other nationalities excluded in some way?

I see it as being less about "being American" and more about the Noodler's ethos or getting the pen to work the way YOU want it to.

I'll still stand my prior statement that I made earlier about if Noodler's came out with a Triple Tail that WASN'T a translucent/demonstrator pen, I'd be interested in getting one. But not till.  And I have three FPCs, four Konrads -- including an ebonite one, and I'd buy another ebonite one in a heartbeat -- five Charlie (pens which came as freebies with ink bottles) and one of the ebonite "Boston Safety" pens (which I'm less enamored of, and really need to watch the video to remind me how to dissemble it to clean it out -- I dislike Luck of the Draw LE, but it's the first ink I found that actually WORKED in the darned pen....

none are excluded

it can be anyone's thing too

it's just that THAT behavior is considered by me to be a core component of a true American that's all

I can think of plenty of so-called "true" Americans who are the ANTITHESIS of such an ethos.  Now I'm gonna suggest that you take a step back before this thread turns political (which, BTW, is against the site rules).

I'm gonna cut you some slack this one time, Ferocity, because you're clearly new.  But the rules (ahem):

1. No politics.

2. No relgion.

3. No naming and shaming of bad vendors (even though I strongly disagree with this one).

4. No undue bashing of "the ink that shall not be named".

Did I forget any?  Those are the main ones. The first two are the really important ones, because Admin and the moderators -- all of whom are volunteers -- do NOT want to have to spend their time stamping out flame wars.  For which service, I for one am truly grateful.  This is an internationally read forum and rules #1 and #2 are because of that.  I see enough BS on Facebook.  I'd rather play here with the grownups.

To me, that's just a part of being a mature person. Children whine and call mom to fix their problems. Adults fix them.

So nothing specific about Americans there. While at the same time, you cannot be a proper (adult) American (or Amazonian, if you wish) if you're not ready to stand up to face and solve problems (yours or others').

No politics intended.

If you are to be ephemeral, leave a good scent.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
