Ink: Rohrer & Klingner Cassia

Overall Impressions:
A vibrant purple. I like the way it shades. The ink seems well-behaved; it doesn't take overly long to dry, and it flowed well in the pens I tried it in. Seems like a great everyday purple with some flair.

Shading: Yes, with bigger nibs on most paper. On Tomoe River paper, I saw some shading even with an EF nib. The color ranged from a medium purple to a dark, eggplanty purple.
Sheen: I didn't see any with normal writing, but there was a slight sheen in the drawing where I layered lines.
Water Resistance: It is not water-resistant.
Ease of Cleaning: Fairly easy. It took a few flushes for the water to run clear. It seems pretty saturated. While cleaning, I got some light ink stains on my hands, but they washed off with a little rubbing.
Nib Creep: None seen after about a week in the pens.

Tomoe River Paper:
Dry Time: Fine nib; less than 15 sec.
Water Resistance: Legible after one swipe with a damp water brush, but completely washed out by a wet brush.
Writing Samples: Shading with the B nib, some with the F, and even a tiny bit with the EF. No feathering or bleedthrough, and moderate showthrough.

Apica Paper:
Shading with the B nib. Not really any shading with the F and EF nibs. No feathering or bleedthrough, not much showthrough.

Notebook Paper:
(This notebook is not particularly fountain pen friendly. The paper feels rougher than the previous two notebooks I had, and ink seems to feather more easily.)

There was feathering and some bleedthrough with the B nib, and occasional feathering with the F nib. There was only a little showthrough. No shading.

I've always thought of purple as a "crazy lady" color but this one is so close to blue it looks sedate and dignified. Thanks for a terrific review.

I've always thought of purple as a "crazy lady" color .........

You’ve obviously never read The Color Purple then ;-)

Anyway, thanks to the OP for their great review & reminding me about this lovely ink. I’m going to dig out my bottle today & ink up a pen with it.

Nice review. Cassia is a beautiful ink and is both vibrant yet serious enough for work. It's also very nicely priced - 4.40Euro for 50ml at my regular supplier. I've seen it available for under 4 Euros online.

Minutes ago I purchased this ink in a pen chalet order. I got two bottles, with plans to give one to my brother. I’m intrigued to read it can show a green sheen. It was a bit impulsive, which is happening a bit too often. Must stop with the buying! The order fulfilled my goal of buying the current lineup of Visconti ink. Purple was my first Visconti ink (not the special edition). Green is my last.

I like italic and stub nibs, and have Tomoe 52gsm paper. I hope to see the green sheen from Cassia.

While I have other, similar purples, I'm now trying to fathom how I missed this ink before.

Thanks for the review. And well, not....

"It's very nice, but frankly, when I signed that list for a P-51, what I had in mind was a fountain pen."

It's a very shy sheen, meaning you need tons and tons of ink pooled in the same spot, and then you only get a thin outline of it. Lamy Azurite has the same green sheen and is a bit less shy in showing it, but still I can see little of it. On Tomoe River.

Wow, that pooling ink with green sheen. Thank you for the photo @onedimensionalmanateee

Mine arrived today. That company turns those orders around fast.

I got my brothers bottle in a package with Diamine Wagner, some ink samples and a couple of notebooks. There is no event to mark, Im just a good sister.

Edited to add Ive noticed the more subtle sheening inks show it better in printing that cursive. More chances for the ink to pool I suppose.

I love this ink... I just wish it were a tiny bit water proof.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).
