Montblanc 146 (F) - Platinum Blue-Black

Sailor 1911L, Loch Ness (M) - Sailor Studio 442

Inking up the 146 today, I was going to use Pilot Blue-Black, but at the last second I went with Platinum instead. Both are delightful inks.

A Noodlers Ahab, with a bouncy steel nib that has a fine grade and perfectly polished tip. I have many (and much more) expensive fountain pens, but in terms of writing performance it's difficult to do better.

This is what I have now inked and using over different occasions

- I change daily in between the Pelikan and the Duofold

- the Visconti is when I want a black to make the difference to my texts

- 51 and TWSBI are when on the go. Always loved to carry a fountain pen with me, now it is even more important with the Covid when sharing a pen turns not very safe

epic mistake on the handwritten text attributing the 51 to Pelikan instead of Parker. Finally, it seems that I am too much Pelikan guy 🤐

So far today it's been the dark blue Pilot Decimo, stub nib, with Iroshizuku Yama-guri; and the pink TWSBI 580-AL, B nib, with diluted Noodler's Baltimore Canyon Blue.

"It's very nice, but frankly, when I signed that list for a P-51, what I had in mind was a fountain pen."

Perch photo!

These are frequent companions, who are on the rodizio.

I'm a big fan of Vintage Pelikans, but I know how to appreciate modern fountain pens.

A Nakaya in arai-shu with a medium nib that writes very much like a fine nib...even when compared to other Nakaya medium nibs, it writes much finer.  I like it!

I didn't know this brand, very beautiful! Is it a piston fill? Vintage?

Indeed it is a PIF= Piston Filler    and vintage with interesting reddish-brown pearl celluloid.

Auerhahn translates to Grouse which is a game bird.

Na verdade, é um PIF = Piston Filler e vintage com interessante celulóide perolado marrom-avermelhado.

Auerhahn se traduz em Grouse, que é uma ave de caça.

Thanks for the feedback. Did not know! I collect vintage piston filler from germany. I'll do a little research. Thanks. Regards

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
