Initial impressions :

I have to say the fake / clone does not feel as nice as the real deal . Just the way the cap screws on feels cheaper . Also the feel of the threads in the body .

The fake / clone is called a HYL , so weather the manufacturer or just the seller is claiming it to be a Moonman M2 . Either way it looks to be a very close copy of the real deal M2 . Are the parts interchangeable ? Don't know .

The pen just got here and I whipped out the camera for some pictures . Hopefully have the pen inked and running ASAP .

The real one is acrylic and the one with the blue ring is injected plastic. Also note the top of the cap and the bottom of the barrel are solid adding weight and substance to the pen. Have seen these clones under different labels. They will write but could use some work. One of those cases where you get what you pay for. Think I paid under 3 US for one just to play with it.

Actually , the pen does look to write really well .

The NIB on this sample makes the Moonman NIB's look and feel like garbage ...

I didn't try to swap NIB's ( screw in assembly ) ...

Might have to buy another for the NIB ..

I like the NIB on this pen , one of the better ones I have experienced with cheap / budget pens .

I took this bait too.
Was looking for Moonman M2 on eBay and then I saw those listed around USD2.5 or so with delivery. So I bite.

Then I realised its a fake.... But I still give them 5 stars because this fake writes pretty well despite being significantly less beautiful than the original.

Yeah , love the way it writes !

I was impressed enough to order another .

Been using it as much as possible along with the Wing Sung 3013 ...

But this CHEAP M2 Clone (?) , for under $10 should be in the running for budget pen of the year ...

The clone is pretty clearly injection molded.

Moonman actually used to be named Lecai. They had to change their name because so many factories started knocking off their designs that their name was tarnished.

Selling a boatload of restored, fairly rare, vintage Japanese gold nib pens, click here to see (more added as I finish restoring them)

It has been a while , and I have been using this ( Clone ? ) as much as possible ..

Just colour me impressed ..

No burps , no leaks , no problems !

And it writes smooth .. For the money , it puts a lot of other pens to shame .

I ordered a 2nd pen which I have not inked yet ..

This clone M2 really needs to be in the running for the SUB $10 pen of 2019 .. ( Budget Pen )

Moonman was worried about their name being tarnished? They just put out a copy of a Leonardo pen! Not a sorta copy. A dead ringer. They also just copied the Pilot 823, Parker Duofold, what looks like a Sailor KOP, and maybe a Danitrio.

Here's the Leonardo knock off.

Well unfortunately in Chinese industrial production culture, any design , if and unless registered and patented , is open to all , this grows out of the old planned economy days and rooted in their mentality. And of course most western product had no registration and patent in the Chinese registry regarding. And I do agree $50 for that is simply asking too much.

If you're referring to "Moonman Leonardo", the Bock nib alone costs about $15. Subtract that from the price and you get a $30 pen, similiar price range to Moonman M600S or Wing Sung 626.

Perhaps in time they'll release a version with a Moonman nib, which would be way cheaper (similiarly like they did with M600, first released with Schmidt nibs, then a cheaper version with Moonman nibs).

for industrial capacity order, that part, the Bock nib can be as little as only $5 each or even lower ( pending the model and quantity )

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
