THE GIVEAWAY OFFER

I'm giving away three separate Pilot Iroshizuku ink sampler sets, consisting of 0.7-0.75ml samples supplied in resealable 1.5ml centrifuge tubes. The specific inks included in each set are:

Set PI01: tsutsuji, momiji, yu-yake, ku-jaku, kon-peki, ama-iro, kiri-same, yama-guri
Set PI02: tsukushi, yama-budo, kosumosu, shin-ryoku, tsuki-yo, tsuyu-kusa, ajisai, take-sumi
Set PI03: fuyu-gaki, ina-ho, chiku-rin, syo-ro, fuyu-syogun, asa-gao, murasaki-shikibu, shin-kai

Each set will be packaged in a small cardboard mailer with sufficient protection (along the lines of this here), and include either a 0.5ml plastic pipette, or a 1ml syringe with a plastic blunt-tip 14-gauge needle, for easy transfer of the inks into any converter, empty cartridge, or eyedropper pen barrel.

WHO PAYS FOR POSTAGE?

I'll pay for postage and send the package by untracked, unregistered letter mail.

(Australia Post regards a postal article of that size, shape and weight as a large letter, full stop. My other options are to send it in that format by registered mail, or pack it in a larger box so that the article measures more than 20mm in total thickness.)

DEADLINE FOR EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST

27 December 2019, 3:00AM Australian Eastern Daylight Time

HOW TO ENTER

Post your expression of interest in this thread, noting for which specific set(s) you want to be considered. You may list more than one set, in descending order of preference.

ELIGIBILITY TO ENTER

This giveaway is open to all FPN members worldwide, subject to:

  • Customs and postal service regulations of the recipient's country, if outside of Australia, allow properly declared, non-hazardous liquid in sealed containers to enter and be delivered by international mail as (large) letters from Australia; and
  • the address provided by the recipient is one to which (large) letters can be delivered by the incumbent postal service.

That means, for example, Yemen is excluded; and Australia Post Parcel Locker and Parcel Collect addresses may not be used as the delivery address, because Australia Post will not deliver letters to such addresses as a rule. Whether letters addressed to a Parcel Locker will be automatically redirected, behind the scenes and at Australia Post's discretion, to the registered user's residential address on file is irrelevant.

SELECTION METHOD

I will select recipients randomly in principle. For each ink sampler set in this giveaway, I will group expressions of interest posted here by the stated entry deadline thus:

  • Entrants who have never been allocated any of my giveaway ink sampler sets
  • Entrants who have received a ink sampler set from me before, but have not already been allocated a different ink sampler set in this giveaway
  • Entrants who have already been allocated another ink sampler set in this giveaway

and then:

  • If Group 1 is not empty, I will randomly select a member of that group as the recipient for the set (thus putting him or her in Group 3 for everything else in this giveaway).
  • If Group 1 is empty, I will randomly select a member of Group 2 if it is not empty.
  • If both Group 1 and Group 2 are empty, I will randomly select a member of Group 3 if it is not empty.
  • If all three groups are empty, i.e. nobody wants that ink sampler set, then that particular ink sampler set is permanently withdrawn.

However, exceptions may be made, such as if N sampler sets are offered, and there are only N entrants each putting down a different first preference, in which case they all get allocated their first preference with no random selection.

I endeavour to be frank and truthful in what I write, show or otherwise present, when I relate my first-hand experiences that are not independently verifiable; and link to third-party content where I can, when I make a claim or refute a statement of fact in a thread. If there is something you can verify for yourself, I entreat you to do so, and judge for yourself what is right, correct, and valid. I may be wrong, and my position or say-so is no more authoritative and carries no more weight than anyone else's here.

Wonderful! Please count me in for all three sets, in no particular order of preference. I have never used any Iroshizuku, and have heard good things about the inks in all three sets. So I am interested to try all of them... and thank you for making this explicitly worldwide. It is sometimes frustrating to be very far away from anywhere else...

Please accept my entry into this giveaway as well.
My preference order is:
PI01
PI02
PI03

For those who are unsure about each of the colors, I found this post that gives some great examples: https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/topic/290775-pilot-iroshizuku-full-line-24-inks/

As was I, which is why I bought retail bottles of all of them. :)

I actually put together the mixed-bag sets in this giveaway with guidance from the poll results in that thread. Of the total of 593 votes cast, the ink colours in set PI01 has 197, and sets PI02 and PI03 have 198 each. Each set has one of the darkest colours, one of the lightest, (at least) one blue, one teal/turquoise, one brown, and so on instead of each set being themed by colour. I trust that would give each recipient more of a general feel for the brand, despite only getting one-third of the regular line-up of Pilot Iroshizuku colours.

whichever way you want to do this is fine with me. Currently, I am much into dark blue inks, but my tastes vary, and I do enjoy different colors at different times... it is so nice to have the variety of today's fountain pen inks.

All 24 vials have been prepared, all three sets have been properly packed into cardboard mailers, and just waiting for recipients to be decided in a week's time. :) Not going to be a rush job and then running off to the post office just at closing time this time around!

Preference ink order- 1 and 3, please! This will be great to try as I'm a student and fanfiction writer, I go through ink like water, lol :P :yikes:

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
