Bought the blank Seven Seas and used a lined grid behind the writing surface to keep lines parallel and consistent.

Bought the lined Seven Seas Writer and still used a lined grid behind the writing surface to keep lines parallel and consistent. For my old eyes I could not see the lines without squinting.

I've been using a Nanami Seven Seas Writer and it's simply superb.

I've had it for about 2 years (stockpiled), so it's an older edition with nice lines to it, but I've seen and heard from others that newer editions have fainter lines, which has kept me from doing a review since it may not be consistent with new models.

Despite that this one is fantastic and there's always Elia Note I suppose, though I do like the Cream Paper that comes with the Nanami Seven Seas Writer.

I have a couple Seven Seas Standards stockpiled and I might have to adopt using grid lines. I love a blank page, there's something special about it, but even after a couple Blank Standard notebooks I still prefer the lines. It will definitely make it look special when reading back on my notes to see such straight writing with no lines.

It is unfortunate Seven Seas Writers have such faint lines now. Last year I actually purchased and then returned the Writer because the lines were so faint compared to my older model. I have descent eyes and I couldn't see the lines without squinting. I felt that was defective.

I don't know if it's intentional and Nanami is trying to create a lined notebook with the most unobtrusive lines, so much so that you can't really see them lol,... or what the heck is going on.

That's why I'm glad to at least see Elia Note come out with practically identical notebooks to Nanami's.

No mention of Elia Note? This is my latest and by far the best journal in a 38 year run. 52gsm, 496 pages, binding that allows the volume to fall, luxuriously, flat on your desk in front of you, and available in dot grid, plain or lined. No frills, just beautiful paper...and lots of it. Not cheap but it's the loveliest volume I've ever written in and I don't think I'll find better.

The power and fun of the Infinite Journal. Each week I use a different fountain pen ink (most time a different fountain pen as well). Have a look at one week's pages. I truly enjoy using this journal.

I have dozens of pocket sized Moleskines that I collected at deep discounts. They will last a decade, easily. I have been using and enjoying molies since 2006 or so and have never had any problems using my fountain pens. However, I only use the recto side of each leaf so molie’s paper issues for others are not issues fo me and it keeps the data density down, making stuff easy to find later.

I ride a recumbent, I play go, I use Macintosh so of course I use a fountain pen.

My goto is still Clairefontaine or Apica. Just cannot better them for my needs. Also like some of Mujis loose leaf and some Daiso notebooks, but both do vary from time to time.

I've reported so many of these as advertising (the links are all clickbait to review sites with further links to various commercial sellers - mostly online art stores) but either the mods are all missing or don't realise what they're seeing. I'm not convinced 'Juliet' is even a real person rather than a bot.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
