Lochby, A5 Field Jornal And Tool Roll

Probably one of the most complete journal case and Pen roll I have ever seen. That's why I'm showing it to you.

The Field Journal and the pen roll consists of waxed canvas. You can use their A5 softcover notebooks that features fountain pen friendly Tomoe River 68g paper.

The journal case is designed to fit 4 notebooks perfectly, and has a few pockets on the inside as well as one on the back.

The pen roll has a metalic hook that keeps the pouch securely closed. I never expect it to loosen up, it keeps the pouch closed very well. It can hold at least 9 fountain pens.

I have taken some photos. Hope you like them.

Hello there, nice pics. I stocked up many notebooks from his previous company Bond Travel Gear. What Sailor pen is that one in the loop?

Whoa, this is what I spent the weekend looking for! A non-leather, A5 sized, multi-notebook cover that could hold a few pens in a pocket!

But because I didn't see this in time, I ordered a Kokuyo Systemic Cover instead...

I got the Field Journal. It’s nice, but I wish I would have bought the Bond Travel Gear version. Maybe in time I’ll like the direction they took when they rebranded and changed the designs. I think I would have preferred the zipper version.

I just ordered the field journal. What are the major differences between it and the previous iteration? Just a zipper?

The Lochby added a pen loop, and has thinner notebooks. The Lochby does have straps to hold in the notebooks so they don’t fall out. I think it accommodates up to 3.

Thanks. I'm glad to have the pen loop. I don't care about the notebooks - it comes with one, but I'm well supplied with Rhodia side-stapled A5 notebooks, which I will use instead.

I wanted the brown, but when they announced the price was going up, I went ahead and got the black, which will be fine.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
