A quick reminder to those interested that we will be meeting this coming Monday (the first Monday of the month) at 5:30 for about an hour. However, I will stay as long as people are willing. For now, the location remains the same.

To whom it may concern:

A few Orange County pen lovers are regularly getting together on the First Monday of each month with no particular agenda. This month we'll be meeting at Starbucks (La Paz and Cabot) from 5:30 to 6:30(ish) on Monday, January 6th. All future meetups, at lease for the foreseeable future, will be at the same location during the same time on the same Monday of the month, but is subject to change which will be posted here. There is, as of yet, no email list, website, or other source for information.

FYI, I caught a bug going around at work and had to call in sick today. I think it would be irresponsible to show up at a food service establishment in my current condition so I will not be at this one. I'll be there for the meeting next month.

"Ink & Drink." Sounds like a bar where you might find a Yink, I think.

(You know, "This one, I think, is called a Yink. He likes to wink, he likes to drink. . . . He likes to wink and drink pink ink . . . ." -- Dr. Seuss)

I think it should go without saying, but I'm going to say it anyway. We will not be getting together this Monday (April 6th) for an Ink&Drink.

Would any of you be interested in  meeting up again sometime soon? Google says that our previous meeting place is permanently closed, but if there's another place in the area with outdoor seating, it would be really nice to meet again.

I'd love to but am not ready to say yes.  With virtually all public seating prohibited I am going to wait a bit longer... likely until I get vaccinated.   I hope everyone is off to an otherwise good start of the year.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
