Shalom From Israel

Recommended Posts

Hi all, I'm new here. I've just been hanging for a bit.

I'm from Israel, though I was born and bred in Cincinnati, Ohio. We, that is my family and I, moved here in 2003.
I'm a grandma to four, one on the way, mom to five, and wife.

I've two fountain pens and one on order, a few inks, including two handmade, one from cabbages, which doesn't work too well at all (very pale) and one from coffee which works like a dream.

I use my pens mostly for journaling, sketching, etc.

Anyone else from Israel? And if so can you recommend places that sell bottled ink in Jerusalem for fountain pens as well as gum arabic. I found dip pen ink at Artistic Hands (I think that was the name).

Thanks and nice to meet everyone.

Shalom. I've visited Israel - amazing experience - but did not have the chance to search of fountain pen shops. Welcome!

Hello and welcome to this friendly corner of the universe from a fountain pen user in San Diego. There is such a wealth of information waiting for you to discover on this site. Write On!

"It's funny; in this era of email and voice mail and all those things that I did not even grow up with, a plain old paper letter takes on amazing intimacy."  Elizabeth Kostova

Hi there! Please explain to me how to make ink from cabbages. I've used a lot of odd things but never that. Black tea and laundry bluing work well. There's a neat forum on here about different ink formulas; it's fun!

Thanks for the welcome!
Re ink from cabbages. What I did was boil up chopped up red cabbage. I include a bunch of dried laurel leaves, and added a few whole cloves. I add a bit of salt and vinegar when it is done, when I think I have gotten as much juice out of the leaves as possible. When it is cool I add a few more cloves to the mix to preserve it a bit better.

That was it really. I think I need more cabbage and less water as the liquid is dark, but it goes on quite pale, gets a bit darker as it dries, but not dark enough. It is a bit difficult to see! I should try it on black paper and see if that helps.

Attaching photo, and hoping someone can suggest something.

Hello and welcome to FPN, from Cape Town, South Africa.

To sit at one's table on a sunny morning, with four clear hours of uninterruptible security, plenty of nice white paper, and a [fountain] pen - that is true happiness!
