Is the Monteverde Mailbu Blue a more purple blue than the Monteverde Sapphire blue?

I want to make sure my monitor is displaying it correctly.

I was using Ku Jaku in that pen which is even more green leaning to my eye.

I tried Syo-Ro, Ku Jaku and Tsuki-Yo - for which I had high hopes - but they all lean too green. Waterman Mysterious Blue is too abracadabra. I was hoping that Bleu Austral be more like Sailor Bungubox Omaezaki Ruri-Umi. I might have to buy some carts and try it out in different pens. Does Bleu Austral have sheen?

From my scans, Malibu Blue does seem to be a bit more purple than Sapphire Blue. I don't have any more of the Malibu Blue to compare. ErrantSmudge did a great review on these, so you may also want to look at his: https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/topic/320011-ink-review-monteverde-malibu-blue/

You might also want to check out mountainofink.com. Her reviews of the two inks show that Sapphire Blue leans more purple. But I also think that it depends upon the concentration/evaporation. When I do a review/comparison, I generally let the ink sit in the pen for at least a week before I do a review. So perhaps the inks were more concentrated at the time.

Either ink is really great. Both are well behaved, and lubricated. Malibu is not quite as dark as Sapphire. It also shades more than Sapphire. But Sapphire has a lovely greenish-gold-coppery sheen to it.

Hope that helps.

What does "too abracadabra" mean?

I never know what colour to expect from this one: it can be blue, blue-black, blue-gray or teal even if I use the same paper+pen combo.

Okay, I get it. Perhaps this is why I like the color. It might pass for when black is required, but blue when blue is preferred.

Sailor Manyo has introduced another 8 inks, which includes 3 blues. If the second round is as good as the first, I will likely buy all of them.

I have four of the eight on pre-order from LCdC.

I noticed just now (trying to help someone hunt down would-be suppliers of Blackstone Barrier Reef Blue ink) that Fontoplumo is having a 40%-off promotion on the new Manyo colours, and the discounted price of seven bottles would make the free international shipping threshold, in case you're so interested. :)

I find Bleu Austral to be a very nice color blue that behaves well. I haven't noticed too much sheen but according to the reviews it has a pink sheen when laid down thick enough. I have it in my Ocean Swirl with a fine nib, tho.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
