I FINALLY made the DC Fountain Pen Super Show!! Woo Hoo!! First time EVER! It IS Super huge. Found a great workhorse writer in the Pilot Elite 95S, discovered the intricate fine quality leather work of Galen Leather of Turkey and snapped up one of their zippered 5 pen/notebook holders in Crazy Horse Brown, love it! Also bought their passport sized 3 notebook pen case inserts of Tomoe River paper that came in a great Pen Show only zippered gorgeous brown pouch, bought a 18111 fountain pen, so pleasing to the touch and seamless in a soothing Royston Turquoise sea green at a bargain bargain price, it is so buttery smooth you have to keep it from gliding off of the page, got a lovely bottle of Vinta ink: Azure/Maharlika7107 a dusky blurple, my favorite color from Ana of Vaness / The Well Appointed Desk, and a couple of cute nib art decals... don’t know the artist, she wasn’t present so I talked to her Dad.. it was a fantastic time. Everyone was so friendly & helpful & I made some great fp friends which is ALWAYS a blessing.

Maybe they're all still at the show? Too busy shopping to post?

Instagram is a bit of a desert as well. And those of us who couldn't make the show are really feeling the absence of substantial posts. But thanks so much for your update. I just re-read your post and the enthusiasm really comes across. Glad you had a great time!

(ps: thanks too for your comments on Galen Leather. I only just discovered them and yours is the first review I've read; glad to hear that you're impressed).

I haven't been able to make DCSS for the last several years -- the last time I went, it was at the old site in Tysons Corners. And unless they move the date later, the way it was the last year I went, I'm unlikely to be able to go anytime for the foreseeable future due to scheduling conflicts.

"It's very nice, but frankly, when I signed that list for a P-51, what I had in mind was a fountain pen."

I live right by it. Sadly I am out of the country right now and couldn’t attend. :( I already have a wish list of discontinued pens I am going to scour it for next year.

Ana,

Try the "Clubs, meetings, and events" subforum. We often discuss pen shows there.

I am glad you enjoyed the show. I also saw the Galen Leather wares and was impressed.

Regards,

Craig

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
