Diamine Robert / Little Bob For Cult Pens

Recommended Posts

Robert is a set of two heavily saturated sheeny inks by Diamine for the pen shop Cult Pens (no affiliation). The other is a blue called Maureen. Robert comes in a regular 80ml Diamine bottle as well as a 30ml plastic bottle, which is called Little Bob. A nice humorous touch.

Robert/Little Bob is a red purple with heavy golden/green sheen. It is very saturated. Though someone else disagreed with me, personally I find Robert somewhat dry and lubrication is medium. It doesn't give me that smooth feeling that I enjoy in wet and lubricating inks. Robert seems to dry out fairly easily on the nib, and it's rather difficult to clean, as is expected from heavily saturated red/purple inks like this.

Great review of yours as always. Looks like a delicious plum, that Bob.

Thanks for another great review. Don't think I'm into schizophrenic inks.

Wow, I like it better than Sweet Potato Purple. Thank you for the wonderful review.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

This ink looks gorgeous! The railroading bothers me, though...do you think that's the ink's fault, or the pen?

Probably both. The nib is finicky to begin with, the relative dryness of the ink doesn't help either. But it should write alright with other nibs (as in the last four lines with a soft medium Nakaya).

That is some crazy green sheen going on there! That much sheen might be reaching even my saturation point (that seems like a pun here), but the colour sure is nice. And very popular this season, apparently, these magenta-type inks seem to be very popular right now!

Thank you for the review!

I am so sorry to read it's on the dry side... I have a rather dry Pilot I would have wanted to try it in. Would R&K Magenta be less dry, what do you think?

I'm very demanding when it comes to the wetness of an ink, so you might find it not dry at all. Indeed I was told by another person that they found it quite wet.

It's been so long since I've tried R&K Magenta. I have no recollection of it anymore.

Does anyone have experience with the White Lightning ink additive product? I wonder how it might affect other ink characteristics, such as sheen.

That looks like to me just PhotoFlo diluted or something of the sort.

Beautiful review! I've got this ink in a Pilot Parallel 3.8mm, which has very wet flow, but I haven't had any flow issues yet. If it's too dry for your pen of choice, can't you just pul a sample and add a drop of glycerine? It's such a gorgeous ink, I think it's worth the experiment.

I love this ink. I have been using it in my GVF Guilloche with an OB nib. It’s everything I like: dark, saturated, heaps of sheen and wet flow (courtesy of the OB nib I expect). It is a tad smeary but nothing is perfect.

  • 4 weeks later...

It appears that Philip (purple with gold sheen) and Christine (blue-black, red sheen) today joined Robert and Maureen on the Diamine Sheen Team.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
