My Rollerball Is Not Writing Well.

Recommended Posts

I have just been given a Mont Blanc Meisterstuck Rollerball and it writes pretty poorly. I have purchased new ink in hopes it would solve the problem but no. Am i missing something or...? Would like to use my pen not just look at it. Any tips on maybe what i am doing or what the pen needs of me to write like i see them write in videos are appreciated.

I have had similar problems with MB rollerballs. Sometimes it could be partially dried up old stock. Sometimes a more absorbent paper helps. I have put various refills from other brands in mine. Have use gel pen refills with using pen springs or other adjustment.

Being a MB RB I wish their refills were better quality and last longer. Since it is MB I would prefer the genuine refill just on principle.

If a rollerball refill runs dry/badly I usually assume it's old stock and the refill has dried out. I've had this problem when I've been forced to buy a refill at a jeweller,and/or a location where there probably isn't high turnover. Perhaps try a different source?

Try the fineliner refill. Much, much better.

I second this. Most of the rollerball pens I had over the years (including Montblanc, Parker and cheap ones) had problems skipping or generally being feedbacky in an irritating way; you could feel the ball rolling, literally. The narrower the tip, the more chances there were for a bad experience.

Luckily, unless your rollerball uses Le Grand refills, you can use a fineliner refill instead. Much better experience. My only two complaints are that the ink tends to dry out just a little bit when unused for days or weeks. Not that it hard starts, but the first half of the page is a darker color. And secondly, I noticed either that the tip is not round like in the case of the rollerball or ballpoint refills. It almost behaves like an oblique nib, having wider and narrower sides. Either it came that way from the factory or it's just wear.

I wouldn't call these problems (at least not when comparing them to the rollerball refill experience), but thought you should know about them. I'm not even sure there are general problems, so if others did (not) experience them, please comment.

I seem to have better luck with the MB medium point RB refill.

Or maybe you can try a thicker refill.

I use the broad refills and they are finicky too. If it doesn't like the paper I'm writing on it will show it's disgust by skipping erratically. I think I'm going to try a fineliner next time.

Not sure if this has been suggested already but would a setting for localized regions or chapters in FPN be helpful? I don't know if there is a way to find local FPN members who would be nearby. I don't know if we want to be discoverable but a setting to know how many members are in 25, 50, or a 100 miles of each other might be helpful. We can create a regions specific network like Craigslist where people could use that to connect with nearby members, conduct in person sales, arrange FPN meetups

Hi again all, I forgot to tell y'all that I made the post about Sweden ink PIF. Most have probably found it long ago, but here's a link, anyway:

I read your blog post and all the replies with much interest. I'm a FP user in Australia. Been part of this forum for years but rarely post. I did come across your ink sharing thread and considered participation. For me it's not lack of interest but lack of time to play around with FP and inks. I'd feel bad to put my hand up for the box and just have it sit until gosh knows when...   I also think that the FP community in Australia is smaller, and I wonder how many in the community are

Even so, you'd end up with a fragmented list, and it becomes an O(N²) process for each prospective requestor to check what is available: effectively recreate the list of currently active servers (without any reliable up-to-date info upfront about the inks and number of samples on offer in the thread) from the sequential list of posts, which may be spread over two or even more pages, and then query each server independently to check what is currently on offer.   It comes down to not hav
