Iroshizuku Sheeners Advice.

Hey guys,

 

I'm looking for recommendations about Iroshizuku sheeners. I've got take-sumi and yama-guri that are working wonders on tomoe river (dark copper and vibrant green sheen respectively) and would like to know your experience with other colors from the same lineup. What are the best sheeners in your opinion? Fiddling with the idea of trying a few more colours and would gladly take your input

I have Yama Budo, and although I haven't tried it on Tomoe, it sheens a nice goldy colour on Clairefontaine so I imagine it would look great on Tomoe too!

Tsutsuji: vibrant pink with heavy gold sheen when a bit concentrated and on sheen-friendly paper.

 

Yama Budo can have a lot of gold sheen too in similar conditions.

Asa Gao delivers some nice sheen, but I just did a comparison of Taccia AO Blue, Pilot Iro. Asa Gao and Sailor Souten. Of the three, Taccia AO Blue sheens the best.

Thank you guys, Yama-budo is surely going into the list, tsutsuji not sure yet, already have lamy rhodonite that looks close enough.

I don't really notice any sheen on Asa Gao, Ajisai, Tsuyu Kusa, Kon Peki (dark, medium or light!), Ama Iro, Yama Guri or Fuyu Gaki, on Clairefontaine, Rhodia, Fabriano Eco Qua and Traccia, and Tomoe River... Or maybe I'm not looking for it; Sailor Souten, Équinoxe 6 in its least green version and Rouge Hématite on the other hand sheen like crazy.

Sheen seems to be dependent on a number of factors -- including the paper. Yesterday I was having to write on glossy card stock at one point, and I was getting sheen out of Sailor Souboku (who knew?) -- and it wasn't just because the ink was still wet, either.

Souboku sheens on various fountain-pen-friendly paper quite readily. Not necessarily a full-on metallic sheen, but at least a color shift to black-red.

What are the best sheeners in your opinion?

I don't know, sorry. I have all 24 regular colours of Pilot Iroshizuku ink, but never felt the urge to compare and rank all of them against each other for sheen as a distinguishing characteristic, in order to arrive at what is "best" in that regard.

 

All I can tell you is that shin-kai exhibits sheen:

from my memory,

 

asa gao, momiji, yama budo, tsutsuji, fugu gaki, (kosumosu is able to sheen)

 

 

the lighter colours do not sheen as readily, although one can fill them in a poorly-sealed pen to allow evaporation, or pour a generous amount of the ink onto paper and allow it to dry. the lighter inks are: chiku rin, kirisame, fuyu syogun, ama iro,

 

many inks sheen, the question is how much sheen and how readily. sometimes in some pen-paper combination it is a very thin crisp outline and sometimes it is cricket-shiny whole alphabets.

 

nib grind and wetness are important factors.

Both Shin Kai and Tsuki Yo are good sheeners for me, with an edge for Shin Kai

Yama-Budo has a golden sheen that can out-sheen a lot of sheening inks

And Kon-Peki has a nice red sheen if you put it down generously.
