Parker 75 Replace Inner Cap Clutch

I have just inherited my father's Parker 75, a sterling silver ciselé which the Parker Penography website says started being offered in 1966. It has a few battle-scars and needs a seriously good clean but appears to be in good condition, except for one thing. The pen won't insert into the cap. I looked into the cap under illumination and one or perhaps two of the arms of the inner cap (is this called the inner cap clutch?) are bent and sticking out. There are replacements advertised on ebay, and one of them is winging its way to me - but I can find no information about the best way to get the old one out, and replace it with the new one.

Regarding dis-assembly of the cap/clip/clutch - according to Marshall & Oldfield .. "The clip screw is loosened with shaped rubber grips or a piece of rubber tube to avoid scratching the clip screw (not pliers). The inner clutch is depressed and the clip can be removed."

 

Having said all that I've just tried this on my two Sterling 75s, with blu-Tack, and failed - also tried Ron's jewel tool without success. Possibly some dry heat might be needed - perhaps others will offer some advice.

But, that is the way apparently, so it seems you must persevere - best of luck.

Many thanks Paul, I've followed these instructions and believe it or not it actually worked! I've now got the cap into all its components, including the bent inner clip. The replacement is ariving soon and it looks (fingers crossed) to be a simple job to replace and reassemble.

Well done, it's actually, not one of easiest pen manoeuvres to be carried out, in getting pens into their original glory.
