Considering Taking The Namiki Either Emperor Or Yukari Plunge- Advice Please

Hello,

I have been lurking for a few years, and have a small collection of German and Italian pens that I use daily-- Im a writer.

I have become increasingly convinced that I need a Namiki pen and have looked at both the Emperor and the Yukari Royale line.

May I get advice on:

1. Useablity-- which one is a better daily use pen

2. Good places to find a used pen (besides Ebay) at a fair price

3. Best vendors if I chose to purchase a new pen

4. What else I need to know

Thank you,

Maya

For impressiveness and ink capacity the Emperor with the #50 nib wins hands down. But for everyday use and comfort i found the girth and weight of the Yukari Royale to be a better fit as I can live with the lower ink capacity of the con-70 converter.

Both pens can be used every day, but the hand feel and weight distribution was better in the Yukari Royale for me. i also did not have to fiddle with opening the tail of the pen to let ink flow.

Given the amount you are thinking of spending, it really should be something you try in person, maybe at a pen show or shop. Even if it meas a special trip.

Use Emperors can be found at auctions and some places like Chatterly Luxuries. I'd probably reach out to Bryant at Chatterly and see if he has any leads. He buys and sells a lot of pens on consignment at pretty good prices usually.
