Contaminated Bottle Of Monteverde Motivation Orange

The day before yesterday, I received a shipment of four Monteverde inks, in the 80 ml bottles, from a reliable vendor. I have gotten accustomed to opening new bottles of ink to check for problems. To my surprise, the bottle of Motivation Orange contained a large amount of goopy contamination. There was no unusual odor, unlike the problem with Montblanc yellow ink several years ago. The vendor has already dispatched a replacement bottle, but if you have this ink, you should check it. As with the Montblanc ink, it may not be an isolated problem.

Thank you for the warning, Monteverde makes good stuff.

My vendor cheerfully replaced the contaminated bottle of ink. The replacement bottle arrived today, and to my surprise, it is identical to the first!

I've sent an inquiry to Monteverde, asking if they've had any other reports of goopy stuff in their orange ink.

You'd think the vendor would have checked the next bottle before sending it out!

I have a bottle of Motivation Orange that is a year old (I got it at the 2018 LA Pen Show). I just checked it, and it has floating gunk in it that resembles the photo posted above. I shook the bottle to see if it was something that needed to go back into solution, but the floating gunk remained.

I'm thinking of pouring the bottle out now. At the very least I'm quarantining it.

I have many other Monteverde inks (at least 15 or so) and this is the first one I've seen with a spoilage issue.

Have you heard back from them? If not, let me know and I will contact them.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Amber, I still have my contaminated bottle and I'd happy to send it back to them if they'd like it for QC purposes. This is one of the promo bottles they provided for your session on inks, so I don't expect anything back in return.

Amber, I have not heard anything from them. I still have the second bottle I received, if they want to examine it.

Oh :/ That was exactly the color I was thinking about getting. :/

Thanks for the update, I'll wait until this gets resolved.

This week is crazy, but I'll try and reach out to them on Monday if they don't reply tomorrow. I just sent an email.

Other than Errantsmudge, I don’t if any of the other posters on this thread have seen this thread.

I contacted Mr. Fox by email, received a prompt reply from him, and with no questions asked, he’s got a replacement in the mail to me.

I heard from Monteverde, and they are sending a replacement ink. Apparently there may be other colors involved.

I checked both of my bottles - Motivation Orange and Hope Green. No issues that I can see - or smell.

Thanks for the direction to the other thread, Herrjaeger.

I received my replacement ink today from Monteverde/Yafa, a week after corresponding with them about having had a problem. I’ve been happy with their inks, and now I’m happy with their customer service for inks.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
