May we suppose that strolling into the South Pole boutique on snowshoes we might be able to acquire this with an OBBB nib?

It might be wisest to pass on an Expression Calligraphy flex nib until more have reported on their experiences having written with it.

If it is laquered metal, I guess this is a fairly substantial pen to hold?

Hi jagwap. Just to clarify, I was referring to the black trim (clip/rings/etc), rather than the pen itself.

The website calls it PVD - but, I'm not sure what that is? I very much like the look of this pen.

Sorry to hear of nib woes, Pravda. Hopefully sorted soon.

Thanks

PVD is way that one can apply a coating to metal, as far as I know.

Anyway, that's bad news. I have had bad experiences with PVD rubbing off on watches. Hopefully pens, which see less skin-to-metal wear, fare better.

Its on the UK Montblanc website at £790 with clearer photos of the nib than on other sites. The engraving looks better in my opinion than I had previously seen.

The MB manager just told me the new Elixir calligraphy inks cannot be used in the flex nib !

This contradicts the Montblanc literature, which says the calligraphy ink is for Montblanc fountain pens.

I notice a few postings saying that we should not post pictures of the Gold Leaf fountain pen. Wonder the reason for the restriction since photos are available on website.

The paper that comes with the ink says modeled after India ink, as in its not India ink by itself. Its a permanent ink, much like the Permanent Blue and Permanent Black. Which is fine for fountain pens, though wouldn't use on a skeleton and would flush/clean every few weeks or so.

Whether it is good for flex or not, I tried it and believe that it runs a bit dry than the regular line.

I am using the Pilot Iroshizuku ink with the Montblanc 146 flex nib and it feels wet. Maybe I should try the Montblanc calligraphy ink next time.

Generally the forum doesn't allow photos of MB pens that haven't been officially released. Seeing that you can now buy the Gold Leaf pen I don't think the restrictions still apply.

Has anyone compare the new Expression/Calligraphy nib with the old 342 from 1950s? I love my 342, very flexible and smooth, however it is a bit too small for my hand.

Then I will post some photos of the pen.

Montblanc official website doesn't show the pens/inks.

Any pictures on the internet are breaking Montblanc's policy and by you posting on FPN, you are jeopardizing the website's relationship with the brand and opening it for potential legal action.

I have had the pen for 5 days and have the self-restrain to hold on until the official date. Why are you guys in such a rush? Is there a prize for whoever leaks the information/photos first? :)

Thank you so much for the above.

What's the urgency on posting images of this model?

It's only a few more days until the official release.

Why not respect Montblanc's request to wait until the day set for their marketing department to officially unveil it?

I appreciate your respect for restraint within the FPN Montblanc Forum.

I have been around far too long to know what will happen next ;) Either the thread will get closed or the pictures will be pulled. Guilty of doing so in the past, a long long time ago.

They are, however, great pictures Wanderlust.. Congratulations

Pravda, you are prescient! wanderlust's post has been hidden as it is against FPN policy to permit posting of photos prior to a maker's release date.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
