Oh, I did not see a red Bell Systems when I was searching for that name on eBay. I did read about them in a thread here. Sorry you missed it.

I hope I win the one I am bidding on because it comes from speerbob, so it will be in working order.

I won the Bell Systems Esterbrook. It went from $38.99 to $43.89. I tried to reason, if I lose there will be more. But I ended up increasing my bid. Happily that was unnecessary.

Bell System Property LJ arrived today. Hurray! The OP had 3 arrive, and I’ll have 2 arrive. That puts my Esterbrook count up to 6.

I thought the other Esterbrook I ordered was blue. Turns out it is black. The seller never mentioned color, but somehow I saw blue in the photos. The nib is the right one. But the pen obviously needs cleaning as there is dried ink at the base of the nib.

Drat, I thought my collection was set, but still no blue. Edited to add it is an LJ. I looked back at the photos to see if I should have spotted that. But the close up on the cap made it look bigger. I should have noticed the smoothness, and realized it was not blue. But the nib is the 2314-M, and I think I will put it on the Bell System Property LJ to have one super great LJ. I need to be in The Black Pen Society.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Hello! I just received my first dollar pen yesterday, and I can’t stop writing with it! I like it so much I want to buy another with a 9128 nib! The search commences!

I hope that everyone is well, and staying healthy!

Vr

Matt

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
