Hi, Folks!

We just received a shipment of these pens and began photographing them. They look really good in person. Esterbrook dealers should have these pens in stock now. These pens have been selling well and have a lot of color choices, so let's see yours!

This is the new Esterbrook Estie Evergreen with gold plate trim fountain pen. It's 5.9 inches long and features a gold plated #6 German JOWO stainless steel nib. The cap and barrel are made from a marbled translucent polished acrylic. The cap has an interesting cushion cap closure that requires a little push while twisting it on or off. The trim is gold plated. It is a cartridge / converter type and with the addition of the MV adapter it can use vintage Esterbrook nibs. This same pen is available with chrome plated trim. Retail price is $195.

The Cobalt Blue does look particularly nice (not sure whether I prefer the silver trim or gold trim -- they both look good). But at that price, I think I'll stick to vintage Esterbrooks....

I have to agree Ruth - seems pricey to me for a steel nibbed pen... (Not that I'm bemoaning steel nibs at all.... )).

I'm not bemoaning steel nibs either. I AM bemoaning the fact that back in the day Esterbrook was an inexpensive but well made pen that gave customers a huge variety of nib widths and quality levels for those people who needed a good writing instrument but for whom a Parker or Sheaffer was too expensive.

And at $195 US, the "new" Esterbrooks have completely missed the concept. I've paid less apiece for for ALL my Parker 51s -- even counting the repair costs on some of the 51 Vacs. I've also paid less than $195 for some of my Pelikans, and even for my Parker Decimo (heck, a full size Vanishing Point costs less).

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
