TBH if the collars are from the nib manufacturers then unless they are to GvFC/FC specification they will not as one (GvFC I think) uses Bock nibs (to their own specification) and feeds, the other JoWo (again nib to their own specification).

The collars for the two are not interchangeable.

Anyone know if the smaller nib on the hexo is interchangeable with small vintage nibs? (Example: old osmia or vintage Faber Castell nibs? They are about the size of a kaweco sport nib)

Hi,

I'm so interested in what you've written here.  I have a Faber-Castell Grip M.  I really do not like the M nib, and have been casting about for a way to replace the nib that isn't going to cost a lot.

I'm a little new to fountain pens, but I don't mind learning from my mistakes ;>  So, do I understand that it is not difficult to remove the Faber-Castell nib from the housing, and that it would not be difficult to insert a new Jowo #5 F or EF nib into that same housing?  I would not need to buy a nib and housing set, is that correct?

Thanks!

The Faber Castell grip nibs are smaller than the regular Faber Castell nibs (those on the loom, ambition, etc). So you'd have to swap nibs with another group's nib.

This is way late, to point this out but if it was in warranty they could have fixed it.

You could have asked anyway how much. Instead of trying to source another pen for parts.

The faber castell nibs are different on their pens. One type exists on cheaper pens like the grip and has a breather hole and another without a breather hole. They seem (in my experience) to perform quite differently. I emailed faber castell to ask about who sources their nibs. They replied by acknowledging they have two different types of nibs but can't say who their supplier is. I have a reddit post which I'll attach which shows what I believe to be the nib used on higher-end pens like the loom and the email I received back.

I presently own 5 Graf von Faber castell pens. One steel nib and 4 gold. They are made by Bock.

I owned before giving away a dozen Faber-Castell pens. The nibs are from Jowo.

All nibs (number 5) feeds and housings are interchangeable and fit all sections.

Bock nibs are a bit softer and have more ample wings. All are really well tuned.

So, can you put Graf von Faber Castell nibs on a Faber Castell Loom for example?

That is, are the #5 steel nibs from Faber Castell (Loom, Ambitio, eMotion, etc.) interchangeable with Graf von Faber Castell nibs? Or are their nib units interchangeable?
I saw some pictures with Graf von Faber Castell nib units and they seem similar to the ones on Loom. And the nibs seem similar, too, but I don't know for sure.

Nib units for the GvFC Tamitio (with JoWo-made steel nibs) are the same format as those for the F-C Ondoro, Ambition, etc. Can't say the same about the GvFC gold nibs, which if I'm not mistaken, are made by Bock not JoWo.

I endeavour to be frank and truthful in what I write, show or otherwise present, when I relate my first-hand experiences that are not independently verifiable; and link to third-party content where I can, when I make a claim or refute a statement of fact in a thread. If there is something you can verify for yourself, I entreat you to do so, and judge for yourself what is right, correct, and valid. I may be wrong, and my position or say-so is no more authoritative and carries no more weight than anyone else's here.

This is what "nibtip" replied to my question about swapping Faber Castell nibs like those found in the Faber Castell Loom with those from Graf von Faber Castell:

"

Yes indeed 100% interchangeable.
Fc have Jowo nibs

and GvFC have bock nibs

i can easily switch the nib units.

GvFC steel nibs are better than FC nibs.

gold nibs slightly springier.

bock nibs are slightly springier than jowos
All have very well tuned nibs in house or

at the factory, I am not sure.
same level as diplomat nibs and well above Montblanc or pelikan.
Nothing specially with Pelikan gold nibs.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
