Montegrappa Nib Tuning?

I have a much loved Montegrappa Extra fountain pen given to me as a leaving present about 15 yrs ago but it's seldom used as the ink flow is a bit heavy, its a medium nib , I wondered if there was anything to do to slow the ink flow or maybe try a 3rd party fine nib to suit my writing style better? I'd like to be able to use the pen a lot more rather than leave it in a desk drawer for another 10 yrs. Any advice would be much appreciated - where to get a replacement fine nib (not sure I could afford a montegrappa replacement at the moment) or tune the nib to slow the ink flow?

Perhaps working with a nibsmith to narrow the tipping and reduce flow would be a worthwhile investment, especially if you are not comfortable tuning nibs.

Cost of a narrowing and a tune should be less than a gold nib generic replacement and you also know it will write as you desire.

John Sorowka aka Oxonian on FPN (pen repair, nib work)

You can google to find his address. In the past he has requested it not be posted.

@Ruaidhri This was an absolutely wonderful bit of writing, and I hope that you're able to maintain the style once all of the medications are out of your system.  Take care and recover quickly!

These comments make me sad as I sympathise with Ruaidhri, having great difficulties in being taken seriously. Or being taken at all (no off-colors jokes, please!) In spite of overwhelming odds,  Ruaidhri -now I know how to spell it- made a courageous decision and stuck to it. I was diagnosed with a similar growth in a place I will not reveal. Oh, well, if you insist it was Mount Sinai Hospital. But I firmly intend to walk in Ruaidhri's footsteps, if he will let me, on my next visit to Dublin.

Reminds me of the day my associates and I developed a cure for all mankind's ills and mistakenly wrote it down with invisible ink.

Was that the end of the Laboratory? Somehow the exactitude created a fully destructive device, as always!
