Just purchased a used MB149 from a seller on FPN (FountainPenCrazy) and am waiting, while tapping my fingers in anticipation, for it to get here tomorrow!

There is a good chance I buy a brand new 149 OM this year. As I want my next pen to be the last one for a long while, I have to make sure to not be disappointed. We'll see.

I wasn't sure either but I got a Tolstoy a year or so ago and immediately loved the finish, and knew the Martele was a must for my collection.

I'm also a big fan of the martele look. Too bad this one is above what I'm ready to put down for a pen as it is one of my favorite looking pen of all time.

So, Bill, how long did it take for MB to do your nib exchange on the Martele? Gorgeous pen and I love those oblique broad nibs!

I ordered it in July from a large American dealer. There were 8 other folks in line ahead of me (which I did not know at the time). My name came up finally in Mid-December, and the pen went back to Germany for the swap. It arrived back at the dealer in mid-January and was shipped to me then, arriving last Friday.

That's a beautiful pen. I saw and held it at my local boutique. I'd love the same in a 145 size for weight reasons. (Probably price, too)

My fingers are always inky and I'm always looking for something new.  Interested in trading?  Contact me!

Shannon, I can recommend this seller... excellent service, couple day shipping to Boise. If this isn't what you wanted, you might try sending her an email.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
