these pens look nice.

Ranga has a rather clear scheme of pen design, which is probably validated and provides interesting results.

These seem to be model 8 and 8B with swollen barrel and cap so that when closed they are flush aligned.

The name also gives this away, it could have been 9 and 9B, but possibly 9B and giant 9B due to even slightly larger size.

The same scheme can be found in model 3 and 4, since model 4 is a model 3 (same section) with a swollen barrel and matching cap to align flush (either rounded ends in the C version or flat tops).

It's very methodical and industrial in a way, and Ranga deserves credit for developing its range further for the enjoyment of its customers.

Regretfully I think these pens are not for me since the big step down from barrel to section is really a deal breaker for the way I hold my pens. I have a similar problem with model 4 although admittedly it's not so bad and I still do use my model 4s (I have 3 of them! my pink ripple was with me at the office today).

That is possibly until I have the chance to try one in person, but at the moment I will not be ordering, despite the looks, especially capped, are really nice.

No issues though, there are so many other Ranga models to enjoy, and I do already have quite a bunch... :D

That's the premium ebonite P14, blue/pink/yellow swirl. The yellow is a delicate shade.

I chose my user name years ago - I have no links to BBS pens (other than owning one!)

Blue/ Pink/Pale Yellow Swirl (P14)

It's a lovely premium ebonite

The pink and blue mingle and give a predominant purple tinge, yellow is more beige (so really pale), it's quite different from any other of the premiums.

This is my 8B in the same colour

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
