Writing sample of the Korean ink 3 Oysters giwa, rather than a full review. Giwa is dark gray with a tinge of green. North Americans would describe it as slate. Fans of murky greens will like this one. Kim Jong-hae is a poet born in Busan, South Korea.

Thank you for the sample. I would love to get your opinion of the formulation. Is it wet, dry, lubricated, etc? Thank you so much!

Neat! If I may say so, I see less a tinge of green but more a hint of bronze. "Slate" sounds good. And... nice poetry!!!

Bronze is a good way of putting it, just on the border of a green patina.

I havent used the ink in enough pens to get a great idea of properties, probably. In a Platinum Preppy with a medium nibs, its smooth and flows nicely, moderately saturated and just a little shading, a fluid experience writing these few lines. Its definitely not dry.

I have the 3 Oysters Mustard ink and really love it, because it is such a unique color! -- in my opinion! I will be very quick to order the other "colors," if they too are somewhat unique! I know that the word unique could mean different things to different people. Just let me say ---- the Mustard is NOT the color of fresh "store bought mustard" used on sandwiches ----- NO! --- NO! --- I don't know how to describe the color! Could be "brown mustard." or dirty mustard--- But the word "dirty" there should NOT mean something that is spoiled, or soiled!!!!!! If you have the other 3 Oysters colors, please tell me if these colors are unique! I am really ready buy them if they are unique! ---- Chas. Skinner

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
