Need A Recommendation On Slim Pen

Eric2018

Recommended Posts

I just got the new Leuchtturm 2019 diary, and I'm thinking to place a fountain pen aside the book (inside the pen loop I mean).

The pen loop is quite small that normal fountain pen cant fit in I think.

The diary is in Gold color. I put the preppy there and the look is no good...

Any slim pen recommended? Let's try under USD 100.00?

Caran D'Ache is the slimmest pen I can think of. Probably thinner than the CP-1, but I like the CP-1 better.

Parker 180, but that's not everyone's cup of tea, due to the unconventional (albeit awesome) nib.

Elysees are also quite thin and some models are just works of art (no wonder they went out of business).

Hero H703, exactly same girth as a standard hexagonal pencil, and screw cap so it won't likely had itself just pop off

Wow, the only thing I can imagine thinner than this would be a nib mounted directly on a cartridge or converter.

Second the Elysee. My first nice pen was an Elysee and it fit comfortably in the pen loop in a 3 inch by 5 inch pocket Daytimer notebook. Great writer and tough as nails.

I recently acquired a Parker UK Slimfold, a perfectly proportioned smaller version of the UK Duofolds. Nib is marked 5.

The barrel is 10mm wide and capped is 125mm long with a typical UK Duofold squeeze filler. No need for c/c.

As far as I can tell, it is smaller and lighter than the Elysee.

Lamy CP1 is the king of skinny pens, IMO. takes any nib, you can even gold-nib it for about $80 more.

Honorable mention to the wing sung 601 and diplomat aero. both are excellent as well.

I don't have one, but the travelers brass pen seems great. as does the kaweco liliput.

The Platinum PTL-5000a is a very narrow pen and has gold trim. The pen is about $60 from online retailers or $40 directly from Japan. Just be aware that it has a toothy nib so if you like a smooth nib it probably isn't for you. I have a review on my YouTube channel (link in my signature) as do many other people on YouTube.

Currently inked:

- Pilot Custom 743 <M> with Pilot Black

- Pelikan M120 Iconic Blue <B> with Pilot Blue

- Lamy Studio All Black <M> with Pilot Blue-Black

No longer made, but can be found on the bay for ~70-80 eur, and playing in another league, is the Montblanc Noblesse, thin, sturdy, good writer and Montblanc.

One of them has been my EDC for the last 20 years and has got through a lot of abuse. I was so happy with it that I got myself a few ones more.

If you are to be ephemeral, leave a good scent.

Out of the price range, even if one could find one for sale, would be the Sailor Chalana

http://wlfraed.home.netcom.com/Chalana_Compare.jpg

The Chalana is the one next to the Sailor 1911L. My next slimmest is the red lacquer over brass Pilot (shown opened so one can see that it IS just over the size of cartridge/converter) next to the Vanishing Point. I bought that one around 1980-1981.

The next candidate if one could be found would be the Sheaffer Fashion II

I know of a few good slim pens...

- Aurora Hastil - This was the FIRST slim style pen thing Idunnoenglish.

- Montblanc Noblesse - This slim pen was pretty popular as well.

ONES I HAVE USED:

- Parker Vector - Not a bad pen.

- Sheaffer School Pen ('50s) - EXCELLENT nib. Kinda ugly pen though.

- Sheaffer TRZ - This nib... ...Is killer. Make sure you use it with a Monteverde Mini converter.

this one is also an interesting and cheap piston filler (Reform) which is rather thin

the one in the photo is a P125, the 1745 is easier to find and very similar, perhaps even thinner

You could also look at the Diplomat Traveller. Very slim and a very nice writer!

I meant this - the aero is too fat, the traveler is nice and thin.

If you are looking on the cheaper side you have a few options.

The Hero 007 is pretty small with a diameter just under 10mm and is probably one of the cheapest pens you can get. On the one I've inked the nib is smooth, for a fine nib. One caveat is that the section is leaking ink, and I've added silicon grease to help. I might do a mini review if there is interest.

Next up is the Baoer 801 with a metal body at just over 10mm. It has several options for the style but the nib and flow can be hit or miss but I like mine over a Parker Vector or Parker Jotter. I have not tried a Parker Rialto yet so I don't know how it compares.

My favorite would be the Jinhao 911, at 11.5mm width. It will perform better than the Hero and Baoer pens and better than much more expensive pens. It is a workhorse of a pen that should age well.

For reference I just measured my Parker Slimfold and it was about 11mm diameter on the body, the cap being larger. The smallest pen I have is a tiny ring top with a 8mm diameter body from the late 1920s. The wood pencil I just measured was 7 to 8mm diameter.

See the 007 in yellow and the 616 in black below:

The Lamy CP1 is a darling. Really nice pen.

Sheaffer Targa might fit - the Targa slim, that is - or the Sheaffer Fashion. Those are quite slender pens. Fashion was never a very expensive pen and sometimes turns up on the Bay.

Too many pens, too little time!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
