First thing that popped into my head for winter is 'grey'. So many grey days here. The day shortens to a meager 7hr 34min at the solstice...you can tell it's not my favourite of our four!

However, there are some bright spots, not least family times and traditions. And you do get the odd splash of colour: red berries, deep greens of the evergreens.

So I went with a berry red in a grey setting. A bit messier than I intended

Thanks Lgsoltek for organising this again! I did enjoy it, even if I didn't make every month.

Stunning! I would never think of a grey and red match myself, but it looks so natural and so perfect. Actually it reminds me of some traditional Chinese ink paintings, like this:

I opened this thread thinking grey, winter is not my favorite season, wondering if someone might post a cheery bright counterpoint.

And Wow! Did your Cranberry do Exactly That!

It is stunning.. you just started my winter day with a cheerful smile. Warm thanks!

Viewed killwinterwithorange threads in past years... maybe it's year of the Cranberry. (Smile)

Thanks to both evyxmsj and Lgsoltek, I love both your entries. It's Summer here, hot, sunny and clear, bright, blue skies.

My pictures were taken about 1 minute apart, with the left in the sun and the right one in the shade. I think they highlight how the strong Australian sun "bleaches" even vivid colours. (The colours on the left are closer to the colours I see outside my window.)

I have long thought gray and red paired well. You showed it here.

I would love some of that sunlight and warmth here!

Hmmm, there is a balance. Tomorrow is forecast to be 37C, Friday to be 35C and I live in one of the coldest parts of the country.

Cheers and thanks :notworthy1: to Lgsoltek for organising the Monthly Ink Combo Project, and to all of you who posted superb entries all through the year. These were always fun and inspiring threads.

I got too busy in December to even think of a combo, but it was a pleasure to participate to these discussions all year.

Thanks Lgsoltek for organising both projects over the past 2 years. It’s been fun and a great way to ensure I use more of my inks.

Thanks to everyone who has participated in these ink projects. I've had lots of fun seeing all your entries.

It began with Amberlea's 365+ daily ink project. I took it up and turned it into a weekly and a monthly project (we all know we have too many inks and not enough time!). I don't have anything planned this year, but we can always think of some group fun inky projects for the future!

I didn't participate as frequently as I would have liked, but would like to do so again if we do something.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
