Has anyone tried Diamine Lilac Night?

My phone isn't currently cooperating, but I'll try to post a picture in a bit. It isn't as dark as I expected.

@ A Smug Dill: That Arabian Nights picture is beautiful.

@ Lgsoltek: Thanks for the Aubergine review; I'm adding that ink to my wishlist.

I'm currently using a sample (generous gift of another member here) of Montblanc Lavender Purple. In an EF nib, it is very dark, smooth, and gorgeous. In other pictures of it I have seen, it looks brighter, with more of the purple showing.

I recently got Birmingham Phipps Conservatory Verbena; it is a beautiful ink. To those here saying that a lot of inks suggested aren't dark or black enough, it may fall into that category for you. https://www.birminghampens.com/products/phipps-conservatory-verbana-30ml

+1 for Sailor Shigure.

I want to really like Diamine Damson and Grape, but both end seem a little too murky for me, not vibrant enough.

What EF is wet enough for Lavender Purple to look very dark?

Phipps Conservatory Verbena is indeed very nice, but I agree, not a purple black.

I also wanted to like Diamine Grape--it was the first ink I ordered when I decided a single bottle of ink was not enough--but its tendency to dry up in the nib if I paused to think quelled my enthusiasm.

@goodpens, thanks. I can't draw, except for maybe the simplest of shapes and objects, but @migo984 put me onto using makeup applicator sticks with fountain pen ink, so I thought I'd just experiment with that idea. Drawing the night sky is easy when the shimmer ink already provides all the stars implicitly, haha!

@ENewton, is that with the cap on or the cap off, that Diamine Grape would be apt to dry up in the nib?

.

I have it in a Pen & Ink Sketch pen with EF nib. A surprisingly good, smooth combo. Edited by goodpens

What a beautiful colour.

Indeed it is. The glitter shows up much better under artificial light, such as from my LED desk lamp, though; whereas I took that picture in the shade late in the afternoon.

Grape has tended to dry up while I am actually writing, for example, while I am taking notes in a meeting or pausing to consider word choices for the next clause in a sentence.

My new bottle of Diamine Grape arrived a few hours ago, so perhaps in the morning I'll ink one of my desk pens with it, and see whether that happens to #metoo.

Oh, that's quite nice. I'd like to see it in person if you feel like doing a CRV?

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

I don't think I've tried Cross Violet. Can you show it to us?

Yes! I have not done a CRV before, but am happy to. I am a little behind on letters, but will try to play catch-up this week and will get a CRV started and in the mail to you. Edited by goodpens

Alright. This was kinda an obsession of mine since seeing a picture of Original Batch Noodlers Nightshade. Which was super dark purple, nearing black while still being interesting. I've ordered it only to have the Black-Plum Burgundy/Brown version of the ink which is the more recent batches consist of. Then I have went on a search to compulsively find the Black-Purples that are available for me.

From my search I've found:

Diamine Eclipse (too blueish but def. black. Very professional.)

Noodlers Nightshade, eh now more burgundy)

RK Scabiosa (Very nice but distinctly purple)

KWZ ig Gumiberry, dunno about Violet offerings. (Looks good but KWZ inks are confusing)

KWZ Grey Plum (very close to the original Nightshade offering)

Sailor Shigure (Never wowed me from pictures.)

I found out that I'm not THAT into dusty purples but really dig the black ones and violets/blurples while being partial to cool red ones like Imperial Purple.

I adore all these colours. I want to buy all the ones I don't yet have. I will not do that. I will not. I will not...

DeAtramentis Aubergine has been mentioned, but I don't think I've seen R&K's Aubergine on the thread yet. Great comparisons in this recent thread.

Also, from what I've seen, Diamine's Purple Rain would be a groovy candidate.

The only ink on this list to which I've never been able to warm is Sailor's Shigure. I know there's a ton of love for it, out there, but every time I lay down a full page of it, it just kind of sits there lifeless to my eye.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
