Thanks for a great review. This is waaaay too dark for me.

I saw these Kuretake inks and was curious about them (partly because the bottles are really neat...), so thanks for your review! The store I was browsing had them listed as Sumi inks (which, as far as I know, aren't generally FP friendly) so I wonder if these are different from ordinary dye-based inks.

Wow... this looks like a very interesting green-black. From what I see here, this looks like an ink that I would like. Too bad that shipping from the US to Europe is so expensive. Hopefully a European distributor will take an interest in these inks.

I first saw this ink on one of the (maybe Rakuten?) shopping sites for ink. They offered the ink, as well as empty bottles & I remember being excited to add a bottle & some empty bottles to my cart. As often is the case, the site then disclaims that the Seller cannot ship the item to my address. I have never used a shipping service so I usually give up & think, "Oh well."

They sell overseas, but have to use the global Rakuten site.

They also give 3 free international standard size cartridge of the purple-black or green-black as sample for every ink purchase.

Yes, I have the same question regarding fountain pen friendliness. The Vanness swatches say sumi too. I can't find much info but would guess they are pigment and not dye-based.

Not pigmented. Easily cleaned out too, and no clogging.

This is after 4 consecutive fills in a Japanese F nib without any cleaning in between.

I agree. I have been gone for a couple of weeks and had left a few drops in a pen. The ink had dried by the time I got home. I was amazed how easy it was to clean out of the pen even after drying.

While I am not overly excited about the color, I love the formulation. For anyone who likes a highly saturated ink, this is a winner.

Recently got this and the Jyako Purple. Didn't try them, but the bottles are absolutely amazing, got the brass cup for them as well. My Japanese friend was kind to carry them to my hand

OOOOO YES YES PLEASE. I looked at and it just looked black so I didn't acquire it.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Well, in regular use it's basically black, I only saw the real purple undertone when I smeared a drop of it, although the widest nib I used with it is a Waterman medium, a 1.5mm nib could produce a bit more purple, but didn't go that direction so far.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
