Hello From Pittsburg ==>Ca<==

Recommended Posts

Hello, I’m George, in Pittsburg (via San Francisco), California. I started my journey around the world of pens less than 6 months ago (when I moved to Pittsburg!). I enjoy an eclectic collection: kit pens, volume produced pens Levenger/Monteverde/Libelle, the “where the hell did this come from” pens, and some from makers discussed widely here in the FPN (Omas, Delta, Conway Stewart, Stipula, Pelikan etc.) I like to have (but not always) a BP/RB mate to a Fountain pen, they keep each other company. I’m not a pen snob, but I don’t use Bic’s. I like to travel, mainly internationally (off to Japan & Vietnam later this month). I had a career in Technology, now working in Real Estate. These are gross generalities/stereotypes however: I like the design of Italian pens, the functionality & sturdiness of German Pens, the price and "innovation" of Chinese pens, and the creative engineering of pens like the Pilot Vanishing point. I’m looking forward to being a contributing member of this great community! :D

Welcome to this friendly little corner of the universe from a fountain pen user in San Diego.

Hello and welcome to FPN, from Cape Town, South Africa.

To sit at one's table on a sunny morning, with four clear hours of uninterruptible security, plenty of nice white paper, and a [fountain] pen - that is true happiness!

Welcome, George !

I, too, enjoy the precision and innovation of our tools. For me, this applies to both fountain pens and handguns.

I have a red Parker Duofold pen and a Post Office mail car revolver, both from 1922.

Glad you joined.

Greetings from (the other) Pittsburgh (the one with the "h"). :W2FPN:

It sounds as if you're off to a good start there. What ink(s) are you using?

I generally suggest that new people click on the "View New Content" button at the top of the page (the main page sidebar will give you options on how much/often you get new posts). And to have a look at the pinned Index to the Ink Review Forum. But you should know that we are all shameless enablers here, and will happily help you spend your descretionary funds on pens, ink, paper, repair tools, ephemera, sealing wax, pen shows, etc. B)

Thank you EVERYONE for the warm greetings!!!

Sasha: Thank you for your post. Very cool that you have a 1922 Vintage pen & revolver. You are likely the only one in the world. I was trying to link the two, and came up with "Going Postal" :))) Although that is an American phenomenon. george

Ruth: Thank you for your post. The map in you profile inspired me to do the same, mine is a mini map of Pittsburg CA!

INK: On my desk –-- at this very moment in time in Pittsburg---, I have 7 bottles of Iroshizuku (yes, the 50ml) 2 – Diamine (small 30ml), a Parker Quink and a Pelikan 4001 blue/black. This is after I instituted crowd control measures for ink on my desk. I am favoring a brand for each color, for example: GREEN - Iroshuku chiku-rin, for BROWN - Diamine Saddle Brown. Blue - is down to the Parker or the Pelikan, and so forth. I have not yet arrived at the level of ink discrimination based on viscosity OR permanence OR potential effect on the bowels of the pen OR how easily it washes off my fingers. As far as Ink vessels: I vote: Iroshizuku “Most Beautiful Bottle”. Diamine 30ML “Best Bottle to Travel With” and Edelstein as “Best Brand Tie-In” with the nicely raised silver Pelikan logo on the lid. george
