IMPORTANT UPDATE:
October meeting has been changed to October 27th at the Wahl Eversharp collection of Syd Saperstein in Scottsdale.
We will meet at the showroom at 4745 N Scottsdale rd. (east side of the road, just north of Camelback) at 10 AM.
We'll enjoy a couple hours with Syd and his collection and learn a bit about the Wahl Eversharp company, both old and new. Then for those that would like to grab lunch we can go down the street a block to the Yardhouse at Camelback and Scottsdale in the Fashion Square.
Hope everyone is still good for the 27th, and hopefully a couple that were not able to join the 13th can now join us.
More to come as the date gets closer,
Thanks,

Jeff Dalton
Desert Pen Collectors.

Hello Desert Pen folks.......
Our October meeting is fast approaching. Hopefully all got earlier email with new date of October 27th. Meeting will be at the new Wahl Eversharp showroom and collection at:

The WAHL-EVERSHARP Company
4745 N Scottsdale Rd #D1007
Scottsdale, Arizona 85251
We will meet there at 10 AM to Noon. I for one can't wait to see the collection of Wahl Eversharp pens from past eras, as well as the new pens being produced with some incredible and very limited stock materials.
After touring and learning from Syd we will head a couple blocks down the road to The Yardhouse for a lunch and continued conversation for those that can make it.
Still working on November date and location, but targeting Nov. 17 to avoid the Thanksgiving weekend. If you have any thoughts, or any topics you would like to see presented at a meeting please let me know.
Thanks and looking forward to seeing everyone.

Jeff

Wow, what a great day with Syd at the new Wahl-Eversharp company headquarters and collection in Scottsdale. Good group of Desert Pen Collectors attending to share pens, inks, and learn quite a bit of pen history from Syd Saperstein. And not that we spent all day in the past, Syd pulled out some of the latest Decoband Wahl-Eversharp pens with some of the most incredible semi flexible nibs I have ever experienced. Learning about pen fabrication and the materials originally used, and the old stock blanks that the new company has acquired for new pens was extremely interesting. Pay attention for a new pen to come out soon from the Wahl-Everhsarp pen company, I think it will be the perfect combination of large size without being huge paired with a fantastic nib.

And special thanks to Judy Saperstein who has tolerated Syd's habit for all these years to culminate in this new venture and shop, and for hosting our group today.

Hope to see everyone in November, details to follow.

Thanks everyone, and come join us if you are in the Phoenix area.

Jeff Dalton

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
