September: Inspired By You - 2018 Monthly Ink Combo Project

(I was just cleaning my pens then it occurred to me I had forgotten to create this month's thread!)

For September, make a combo of two (or more) inks you've seen other members use in the past couple of months. You don't have to use the exact combo from one member. You can mix and match!

Great submission! This month's a toughie--there's a lot to choose from. A lot of the inks that have caught my eye in previous submissions are ones I don't own (yet). This is just a clever trap to spur more purchases, isn't it... :lol:

Thank you. Yes, I think you're right--a definite trap!!

Going through previous submissions, I found way too many great inks to choose from. In the end I narrowed it down to six inks that I thought shared a common mood (apart from Yama Dori's sheen...):

1. Franklin Christoph Tenebris Purpuratum (EBGBs, January)
2. Kyo-Iro Soft Snow of Ohara (namrehsnoom, February)
3. L'Artisan Pastellier Callifolio Oconto (namrehsnoom, August)
4. Sailor Yama Dori (MsRedpen, February)
5. Papier Plume Bayou Nightfall (namrehsnoom, February)
6. Pilot Iroshizuku Fuyu Syogun (Newjelan, June)

Looks like namrehsnoom and I either own a lot of inks in common or have similar tastes (or both). Anyway, I haven't used any of these in a long time, so I took this opportunity to remind myself that I don't always need to buy new inks to get a nice change of pace... and I also have Sailor Yodaki in my shopping cart as a result of browsing previous submissions, so maybe I wasn't so successful...

I can see how all these colours are totally of namrehsnoom's taste!

:lol: ... and I totally like the other colours you selected too ! Great presentation, and I like that you keep to your theme regarding your presentation style for these challenges. Way cool !

My September entries, thanks to everyone, your entries inspire me every month. Sorry about the shadows, too many windows ;) . Look at the sheen on Yama-Guri :wub: It's like shimmer.

It is a rather fine line between inspiration and full copycat.... And I have big feet :D

My entry for this month; Robert Oster Fire & Ice (thank you Visvamitra), Diamine Coral (thank you Chrissy) and Kaweco Paradise Blue (thank you Torrilin)... presented in the style of Crahptacular and Lgsoltek!

I think I actually bought these 3 inks thanks to your posts here; so that was proper enabling.

(the drawing and swatches are on Tomoe River paper, the written page is Rhodia)

The sheen shot:

And another view of the whole thing; bottles, pens and all

As usually the image hosting site blurs the pictures up - the originals are clear! So I'm sorry

I haven't used my pens and inks much this month, so I haven't had the chance to fill my pens with all my choices. I did manage to use the three colours I picked:

Callifolio Heure Dorée, inspired by namrehsnoom;

KWZI Grapefruit, inspired by crahptacular;

Visconti Blue, inspired by Newjelan.

Stunning! I love the homage to Piet Mondrian, one of my favourite artists.

  • 3 weeks later...

These were the inks that we used my first pen posse and they ended up on my blotter. You will notice a lot of Private Reserve Avacado (not avocado).

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Create a Ghostly Avatar and I'll send you a letter. Check out some Ink comparisons: The Great PPS Comparison

Don't know where to start?  Look at the Inky Topics O'day.  Then, see inks sorted by color: Blue Purple Brown Red Green Dark Green Orange Black Pinks Yellows Blue-Blacks Grey/Gray UVInks Turquoise/Teal MURKY

      I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

      It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

      Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

      Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

      I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
