Looks very nice. But why make it off size? Too bad if you want to use it in an existing A5 cover. Haven't tried the heavier tomoe as yet but keen to do so.

Like the look of this. Nice to have another supplier of TR notebooks in Europe, I just wish they offered a proper grid version!

The notebook already has a leather cover

 

I would still place in a compendium or similar. Just makes no sense not sticking to traditional sizes. can't see anywhere where it says the cover is leather. If so, this notebook is very well priced.

Size is 210 x 132mm - true A5 is 210 x 148. Must be about the cut from the larger sheets although Japan is an A size country so should suit true A sizes spot on.

From experience of buying Tomoegawa paper in bulk I have found that it is directional and subject to curling and wrinkling if bound the ‘wrong’ way. This means you can’t always just fold an A4 sheet in half to bind signatures in an A5 book. So quite a few Tomoe notebooks made by smaller sellers/manufacturers are just under A5 across the width (i.e. narrower) because if the binder is cutting from, or using, true ISO paper it saves a lot of wastage. Large scale makers will use larger sheets or even rolls so can adjust to ISO paper sizes, or will buy the correct grain. Traditionally Japanese stitched notebooks are smaller sizes, rather than ISO A5.

It's closer to the golden ratio than standard A size paper.

Although Moleskine is closer with 128mm width

Jet pens has nice TR notebooks. I just bought the a5 size, 368 pages, 52g.

 

Kinda spendy. Half the price at Nanami Paper with 480 pages.

Add lightness and simplicate.

      I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

      Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

      I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature.
