There's a black gold-trim Waterman Expert on the UK site for £34.80 for any Amazon Prime members.

I chose my user name years ago - I have no links to BBS pens (other than owning one!)

Fountain pen stuff seem like the quirky niche product that would be sold during Prime Day but I've rarely seen any good deals. I always look for deals during Prime Day (fountain pen or otherwise) but have rarely ever found anything worth buying.

There was 20% off all Warehouse Deals, so I got a Divina Bronze Oversize for £400 and a 2017 Parker Premier for £100. They both claim to be 'like new', but we'll see. Sometimes Warehouse Deal pens are mint with a scuff on the box, or else look as if they've been kicked down the road with hobnail boots. But always worth a look - I've had some belters :happyberet:

There's a "used acceptable" Carène on amazon US for $127 USD... I dare not go used with this pen

I will never, EVER touch a warehouse product again. I've been BURNED twice by them with products advertised as "like new." one was a blender that was missing parts that were not described and looked as if someone tried to blend gravel for an hour or two in the carafe. The other was a crystal decanter that had a full length crack down the side.

And they do not accept any refunds. absolute f**king tripe

That stinks. In the UK you can just send stuff back for any reason. I think our consumer laws are very different generally (and prices probably often higher to cover guarantees etc).

My best one was for a Parker Premier Black monochrome, 'as new' which turned out to be the previous purchaser putting a monochrome IM in the box instead! Scam deluxe ... (and they do sort of look similar).

On the other hand I've had an absolutely mint Waterman Night & Day with the best fine nib I have ever used, and an equally superb G von FC ivory Anello, both well under half price.

I've bought a few Warehouse deals that have been worth buying. I drew the line yesterday while looking at a pair of crystal champagne glasses that were described as "acceptable" because they had several chips and much damage, despite still being useable??????

I saw the Waterman Expert, but didn't bother as it wasn't on my list of pens to buy.

I will only go for 'like new' or 'very good'. I think there is a generic description for each grade.

Generally I have had mostly good experiences, although occasionally some stuff just isn't saleworthy at all.

Yes, that's my current thinking. "Like new" or "Very good" :)

I've bought a lot of warehouse deals over the years and never had an issue (I wasn't even aware of the no return policy) but YMMV. I've never tried warehouse deals on pens, so maybe those are riskier.

Really???? That's awful. They took returns from me.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

My best purchases on Amazon Warehouse deals are two Waterman Edson in mint condition, £240 each.

On Amazon.it during the prime day I bought a black Rotring 600 Mechanical pencil. A good complement for the fountain pen I already have.

Yes, I had the 3rd one. I think there were 3 at the time and I regret to this day not buying them all.

it turns out, the Waterman Expert I picked up didn't write well out of the box. It was probably returned so that's how it ended up on Amazon Warehouse. I stripped it down and cleaned it and now it writes beautifully. Not bad for $44.

Hm. Waterman Expert Blue Obsession is $73. Resisting that temptation is going to be tough for me. I have the Obsession Hemisphere and Carene. All I need to have all four is the Perspective and the Expert, and that $73 price tag is a steal.

In black with gold trim, fine nib... $50. Luckily for my wallet I don't like gold accents.

Wow. What a steal. I can only dream of finding a deal like that

Ah Ruaidhri ya wee heid banger, you do indeed have an Irishman’s way wid dose words now. I’ll be from outer Aberdeenshire up in the blizzard riven braes of the Grampians.  Amateur medicine and surgery is it? Well what noble aspirations you do possess, we need to encourage such noble experimentations.  I pondered on leaving my own battered shell to science, but, until I read your pearls of wisdom and lament, I had comedown on the side of leaving my body to Findus frozen foods.  However, your rema

Hi Smug Dill,   Nice project.  If it were me, I'd cover stuff like: - nib types available, i.e. styles, materials (SS vs gold), flex vs nails; - filling systems (I love the "thingie" comment) and how once can use them in practice (e.g. fill cartridges with a syringe); - pen body materials and their consequences (pen not balanced of too heavy and big for the hand); - and, whilst you've made it clear that you do not like vintage pens, a discussion of these beyond "I d

Thanks for your input! Yes, not putting wood in the list of body materials warranting a mention was an oversight. I love pens with wooden bodies, but my main concern, or chagrin, is that I have not come across a wooden-bodied pen with a wooden cap that seals well. Actually, there is one, but it isn't really wood per se: the Pilot Custom Kaede's maple body is resin impregnated. All other wooden pens I have can dry out while capped and undisturbed; that includes several Platinum #3776 models.

That looks pretty good. You might want to add wood as a material (with its weakness of staining) and mention urushi. And under ergonomic considerations, the size of section (slender pens vs chunky pens), and shape of section, and 'disturbances' such as the Lamy 2000 'ears' and Pilot Capless clip getting in the way might be worth mentioning. Also possibly a general section on things you can do yourself with a bit of care, with a bit of practice, and things that are strictly "don't try this a
