As you can see, the Montblanc UNICEF can have a great deal of variation. Starts fairly dark blue and then lightens up considerably to a blue-blue-green. Having a lot of fun writing and sketching with this ink.

Thank you Jporos for bringing it up! I have to say I had entirely missed this ink until today (I love MB pens, but I’m rather indifferent to their inks. Also $$$)

Anyway I'm much tempted to give this one a try. The colour on the logo you drew is just turquoise – seems spot-on Unicef/UN blue by the way – but it does get more interesting later. The colour range and shading of the last couple of lines you wrote (WRITTEN WITH…) look properly exciting

The nice bit about Montblanc UNICEF is that the cartridges cost the same as any of their other inks in cartridge form. Same with their Spider Gray, which I think is my next buy.

VERY NICE

It took me a while to find the right pen for Ama Iro, and then for Kon Peki to look just right to me I need to use a bit of cellophane in a Pelikan with an F nib... Maybe an EF wouldn't need such a hack; but it also looks nice lighter and darker. Équinoxe 6 starts as a medium greenish blue and then veers towards something else, which I like even more. Souten just for comparison purposes.

In very wet pens Ama Iro, Kon Peki and Équinoxe 6 look really similar.

Lamy Petrol. The pen was writing for the first time in a while off a cartridge and the first writing out of the nib was on the dry side. A nice dark teal that is suitable for general writing, that is if you can find any.

Thanks for that post, it confirms what I had been wondering.

About a month ago I ordered several 15ml bottles of IRO ink, and based on reviews I included Kon Peki. I was disappointed when I saw it, and figured that probably it was because I had it in a Pilot EF nib. It looks just like what is in your picture for the EF. That's a pretty color, but it's not what I was looking for and my initial reaction was of disappointment. Asa Gao in the nib, though, is awesome, similar to the color of your Kon Peki from the Cool M nib. I had been wondering if the Kon Peki would be that different, and sho'nuf it is.

A couple of bad pics of my teal sheet, with more inks added;

20190106-160813b.jpg

Compared to the last post a couple months ago, I added;

- Iroshizuku Syo-Ro (it seems to look more like a grey-green on some papers and pretty teal on others, such as Tomoe River, that's why i finally added it here, after excluding it at first)

- Sailor Ink Studio #464 and #764 (both quite green and quite similar, just 764 is darker than 464. Not a fan so far. In that style I prefer Colorverse Morning Star; similar type of colour but it pops more)

- J. Herbin Bleu Calanque (pretty!! Totally my kind. It seems somewhere between Diamine Aqua Lagoon and Diamine Marine)

- KWZ Walk Over Vistula (nice dark turquoise with red sheen. It'll be part of my next rotation)

- Diamine Schubert (Nice but I had really high expectations for some reason so I feel slightly let-down at the moment. Seems very close to Robert Oster Deep Sea on my sheet)

- Pelikan Edelstein Aquamarine (Ditto above on my opinion/ expectations. It looks very close to Diamine Eau de Nil, maybe just a touch greener)

There's still space so there will be more to come!

The closest to Lamy Petrol are Herbin's Emerald de Chivor or Vert de Gris.

This way, I can use my Lamy Petrol a lot more, I used my own mix but it is running out and a bother to try to re-create.

Bleu Calanque will replace the old style Waterman South Sea Blue.

Very grateful to Herbin to have created new shades of inks to match my pens colors perfectly.

I've put these together for a post about printing 3.7mm grid on Tomoe River, but relevant for this topic too :)

      I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

      It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

      Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

      Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

      I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
