DON'T put that lovely pen in the fridge, Ruth!

:lticaptd:

Of course the pen would fit -- it's the potato salad I've got to cram in (when I make it I start with a five pound bag of potatoes).

Sounds fun at your hub - think we need to up our game in London!

I chose my user name years ago - I have no links to BBS pens (other than owning one!)

I can't wait. Ottawa hub upgraded! They aren't giving away donkeys anymore, they upped their game to free unicorns!

While you did miss the deadline (a lot of folks sadly did, as noted in a few posts to this thread), it sounds like a lot of hubs are open to a couple of non-registrants showing up. Cyber6 is, as I understand it, a co-hub master for Toronto this year, so you may want to PM her for information.

Hopefully that helps!

The Pittsburgh Hubmaster sent out mail yesterday evening that the package is on its way -- he'd just gotten the notification that it was en route.

I can't wait! Trying to decide if I should ink up the new M120 Iconic Blue now (in time for the regular Steel City Nibs meeting tomorrow night) or wait till the Hub. I got it at the Commonwealth Pen Show on Sunday, and just flushed out any residual manufacturing debris last night. Boy -- is it a pretty pen!

Hopefully the M nib will not be too boring (I didn't have any choice on the nib at the show, but the price was decent). Thinking that I DON'T want to put Olivine in it -- that would just look weird, IMO....

Ruth, I have found two inks that look fantastic in the Iconic Blue M120: Birmingham Pens Cathedral of Learning Panther Blue and Montblanc Homer Greek Blue.

Well, I don't have either of those (although I did get to try someone's Homer Greek Blue last night at the SCN meeting -- and you're right, that is a nice ink).

Right now the pen has MB Beatles Psychedelic Purple in it (one of the inks I picked up at the Commonwealth Pen Show last weekend. Of the other 3 ink purchases, I wanted to test the two Noodler's inks in other pens first (especially the show swag ink, which turned out to be a MUCH nicer green than the color printing on the label suggested); and since I don't tend to go "matchy matchy" with inks and pen barrel colors, that left the little bottle of Diamine Havasu Turquoise out of the running.... So the Beatles ink won out....

Oh, and I opened up the vintage-looking bottle of Pelikan 4001 Brilliant Black (with the pen rest built into the bottle shape) but for someone else to use;, but I don't tend to use black ink as much as other colors.

Still no Hub boxes so I emailed Chartpak. Everything is scheduled to arrive tomorrow. 😠 So much for going straight to the Hub from work. I sent a pretty nasty email to Chartpak. It won't change anything but it sure did make me feel better.

Hub is over for 2018. It was great fun meeting other FP Fanatics and spending 2 hours talking about pens and inks and playing with others’ pens.

If Pelikan wanted to kill off the Hubs, they could hardly come up with a better strategy than waiting until the very last minute to send the materials. It's starting to remind me of all the people who write to Miss Manners wanting to know the proper way to give a party while getting your guests to pay for it.

Honestly people... while risking getting booo'ed out of here, I will say that I have organized/managed/coordinated the Toronto Pen & PInts for years. Not even ONCE I gave away any gifts.. and SURPRISINGLY, every month we all meet and enjoy each others' company and get to talk and play with pens and inks. (plus food and booze).. What can be better??

Pelikan should STOP sending gifts (maybe something for the hubmaster) and let people just enjoy each others company. /rant

I'm with Cyber on this.

The focus is about coming together with our tribe: to ink and greet, be amazed at each other's collections of pens or inks, and maybe have a meal together as we laugh and enjoy each other's company.

I make a lot of goodies for my hub and some for Portland. I bring a lot of ink to share. But those things are really icing on the cake.

It shouldn't be about swag Pelikan sends out, it should be about connecting with our tribe.

I did not know what a Pelikan Hub was until a few days ago but if I can see some pens like Pelikan M400 M600 M605 M800 or even an M1000 I would be 100% fountain pen geeked out. Last night my first and only fountain pen fell... More like rolled off the table, nib bent and in a panic I knocked over Walnut ink Noodler's... Lets just say. My hands are stained brown and I could really use a pick me up.

Thanks in advance!

Last year our Hubmaster got bottles of all currently available colors of Edelstein. So we were all able to dip test to see which colors we liked/didn't like.

I'll admit I blow hot and cold on the swag. The first one I went to there were advertising paper cups, and tins of Edelstein Amethyst cartridges (which I couldn't use because I didn't have any pens which took International Standard carts at the time; hoping that since the tin is mostly kept closed that there hasn't been too much evaporation). Another year we got really nice notepads (sort of 6" x 8"). I'd love to get more of those -- it was very FP friendly paper. Last year it was bottles of Smoky Quartz which I was NOT going to turn down!

Last year and this year the Pittsburgh Hubs were at a church hall (thanks to the minister, who is on FPN as reveric), and we had potlucks. Which reminds me -- I shouldn't be on FPN because I need to make potato salad for tonight!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
